Former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav undergoes COVID test
Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo, Lalu Prasad Yadav underwent COVID-19 test as part of a precautionary measure amid a surge in cases in the case.
According to reports, Lalu Yadav's report is awaited. The procedure was done keeping in mind the COVID designated facility installed near his ward. Three other staff staying with Lalu Yadav were also tested for the virus.

TN crosses two lakh COVID-19 cases mark with 6988 fresh infections
Tamil Nadu on Saturday breached the grim milestone of two lakh Coronavirus cases with the biggest daily spike of 6,988 fresh infections, pushing the tally to 2,06,737. The death toll climbed to 3,409 with 89 fatalities.
The number of those discharged today after recovery was 7,758, taking the recoveries to 1,51,055, a health department bulletin said. Continuing with the aggressive testing, health workers tested 64,315 samples, pushing the aggregate to 22,87,334.
Chennai reported 1,329 new cases, and the state capital's tally stood at 93,537.

AP reports 7,813 COVID-19 cases, 52 deaths
The upward spiral of coronavirus cases continued in Andhra Pradesh as another 7,813 were added in a day to take the overall tally to 88,671 on Saturday. Another 52 COVID-19 patients succumbed while 3,208 were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, the latest bulletin said.
The total number of COVID-19 patients discharged so far touched 43,255 and the gross toll 985. The state now has 44,431 active cases, according to the bulletin.

UP reports record 2,971 fresh cases, 39 deaths
Uttar Pradesh on Saturday reported 39 more deaths due to COVID-19 and 2,971 fresh cases, the highest single-day spike in the state. The death toll due to the disease has mounted to 1,387, while the state's caseload has reached 63,742.
According to a health bulletin issued by the state government on Saturday, UP reported 2,984 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, but it did not specify the time period.

1,142 fresh coronavirus cases, 29 deaths in Delhi
Delhi recorded 1,142 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, pushing the city's caseload to over 1.29 lakh, while the death toll jumped to 3,806, authorities said. Twenty-nine fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the health department. It added that the total number of cases has climbed to 1,29,531.
On June 20, the fresh cases count had dipped to 954, and increased the next day to 1,349. Since Tuesday, the fresh cases have been recorded in excess of 1,000.
The number of active cases was 12,657, down from 13,681 on Friday. On June 23, the national capital had reported the highest single-day spike of 3,947 cases.

Lab technician dies of COVID-19 in Hyderabad
A lab technician with a state-run hospital here died of COVID-19 on Saturday, an official said. The 59-year-old lab technician, who tested positive for the virus about a fortnight ago, was in home quarantine for a few days, he said.
He was admitted to the hospital after developing health issues. He was then shifted to another government hospital for better care and the end came in the early hours of the day, the official said.
The lab technician was also put on ventilator support as part of the treatment, he added. Earlier, two private doctors, who were not involved in treating COVID-19 patients, succumbed to the virus in Telangana.

J&K COVID-19 death toll reaches 300
The total number of coronavirus deaths in Jammu and Kashmir has increased to 300 after four COVID-19 infected patients died on Saturday, according to doctors.
The doctors said of the four victims, three belonged to Srinagar district and one to Baramulla.
Till Friday evening, 16,782 people had been reported as infected by COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir, out of which 9,217 have recovered completely leaving 7,269 active cases in the union territory.
Authorities have already reimposed a lockdown in nine districts of Kashmir except Bandipora, which will remain in force till 6 a.m. of July 27.
Markets will reopen in a phased manner from July 27 to allow Eid shopping, but prevent overcrowding on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha which falls on August 1..
All religious preachers have appealed to celebrate Eid with the utmost austerity and spend more time in prayer and penance as the world was facing one of its worst challenges due to the pandemic.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister tests positive for COVID-19
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said that he has tested coronavirus positive.
Chouhan shared the news on Twitter in the morning."I had symptoms of COVID-19. In the test report, I was found positive.
I appeal to all my colleagues that whoever has come in my contact to get tested for coronavirus. My close contacts should move to quarantine," Chouhan said in a tweet.
In another tweet, the chief minister said that if detected and treated on time, COVID-19 infection can be cured."
I have been reviewing the status of coronavirus infection in the state every evening since March 25. Now I will try to review the situation through video conferencing as much as possible," he said.

1,640 new cases, 8 deaths in Telangana
As many as 1,640 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths were reported in Telangana on Friday, taking the total tally in the state to 52,466.
According to the official data, 1,007 patients have recovered from the virus. The total number of cases include 40,334 recoveries and 455 fatalities.
Presently, 11,677 COVID-19 patients are isolated and being treated.
India reported the highest single-day spike of 49,310 coronavirus cases on Friday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases stand at 12,87,945 including 4,40,135 active cases, 8,17,209 cured/discharged/migrated. With 740 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 30,601.

Kolkata Police constable dies due to COVID-19
A Kolkata Police constable succumbed to COVID-19 at a private hospital here, an officer said on Saturday.
Constable Krishna Kanta Barman posted at Hastings Police Station died on Friday, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
"He was suffering from COVID-19 for more than a week and succumbed to it last evening. His family will get Rs 10 lakh as part of the health insurance of the state government for COVID-19 warriors," he said.
So far, three Kolkata Police personnel have died of COVID-19.
Officer-in-charge of Taltala Women's Police Station has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, police sources said.
Currently, over 270 police personnel of the force are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at different hospitals, they said.
So far, over 900 policemen including Kolkata Police personnel have been infected by the disease in West Bengal, the officer added.

Karnataka's mounts to 85,870 with 5K new cases
Karnataka has registered 5,007 new COVID positive cases, raising the state's tally to 85,870, even as 110 more patients succumbed to the virus, an official said on Friday.
With 2,267 new infections in Bengaluru, the city continues to be the epicentre of the pandemic in the southern state, increasing its tally to 41,467, out of which 30,561 are active.
Bengaluru accounts for 58 per cent of all the active cases in the state, similar to Thursday.
Among the new cases, excluding Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru accounted for 281 cases, followed by Udupi (190), Bagalkote (184), Dakshina Kannada (180) and Dharwad (174) among others.
In the past 24 hours, 110 people have succumbed to the virus, swelling the total number of discharges to 31,247.
Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) has been identified to be the most common medical condition among the deaths, with fever, cough and breathlessness being the main symptoms.
Meanwhile, on a positive note, 2,037 patients have been discharged, 746 in Bengaluru itself, increasing the total number of discharges to 31,347.
Of the total 85,870 cases, 52,791 are active while the number of patients in ICU declined to 640.
Incidentally, a senior police officer who recovered from coronavirus has set an example by donating his plasma in the city.
"Let every drop of our blood be in the service of our people in the fight against COVID. Satish, ACP, Traffic, northeast (division of Bengaluru) who recently got recovered from COVID donated his blood to extract the plasma," said Additional Commissioner of Police of Hemant Nimbalkar.

90 trainee cops in Bengaluru test positive
About 90 newly recruited police personnel tested Covid-19 positive at a police training school in the city, an official said on Friday.
"When a trainee tested positive recently, a random test was conducted on all other 391 trainees at the school and 90 of them turned positive for the infection. They have been admitted in different state-run designated hospitals across the city for treatment," Karnataka police training school Superintendent of Police Manjunath Shukla said.
The affected are part of a new batch of constables on an 8-month training course for induction into the state police force across the southern state.
"Majority of the trainees stay in the training school quarters in the city's north-east suburb. The school and the quarters have been fumigated," said Shukla.
About 150 of the remaining trainees who were with the affected personnel have been isolated and quarantined in the sanitised quarters.
According to Additional Police Commissioner Hemant Nimbalkar, about 800 policemen across the city have been infected on duty as COVID warriors and 7 succumbed since the pandemic broke out in mid-March.
Of the affected, 500 have been discharged and about 300 are under treatment at various COVID designated hospitals.
About 400 other police personnel and relatives of the infected policemen have been put under home quarantine, as first or primary contacts.

Tamil Nadu reports new single-day high of 6,785 cases
Tamil Nadu on Friday reported a new single-day high of 6,785 fresh COVID-19 cases as the overall tally touched 199,749 while 88 fatalities propelled the death toll to 3,320, health officials said.
A total of 65,150 swab samples were tested and the total tally of such tests stands at 22,23,019.
A total number of 6,504 persons were discharged from various hospitals taking the total recoveries to 143,297.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 53,132, officials added.
The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 10,006.
The state capital continues to head the coronavirus infection table with 1,299 persons testing positive for the virus and the total tally stands at 92,206.
The active cases in the city stand at 13,743 while the total number of COVID-19 patients discharged in Chennai stood at 1,110.

After 2 days of highs, Maharashtra's Covid-19 deaths, cases decline
After two days of record-high COVID deaths and cases, Maharashtra notched a decline on both fronts, though the situation continued to remain grim on Friday, health officials said.
The state notched its third-highest 9,615 new COVID cases, down from the highest 10,576 (July 22), as fresh cases continued to soar in the 8K-plus range in the second half of July.
The number of deaths in the state continued to remain in the 200-plus range with 278 notched on Friday - lower than the peak single day's record toll of 298 recorded on July 23.
With the fresh fatalities, the state's death toll went up from 12,854 a day earlier to 13,132 now, while the total cases touched 357,117 - both highest in the country.
According to Friday's figures, there was one death roughly every 5 minutes and a stupendous 401 new cases every hour added to the state tally.
The state recovery rate increased for the second day from 55.09 per cent to 55.99 on Friday, while the current mortality (death) rate stood at 3.68 per cent.
The Health Department said that of the total cases till date, 143,714 are 'active cases' (ill) and that this number is lower (favourable) vis-a-vis the number of patients cured and discharged, indicating a positive sign

Andhra tops south India tally with record 8,147 cases
For the second consecutive day, Andhra Pradesh reported its highest single-day COVID count, surpassing the remaining south Indian states.
On Friday, the state reported an all-time high of 8,147 new cases in the 24 hours ending 9 a.m., state health officials said.
The previous single-day high of 7,998 cases was recorded on Thursday. Compared to Andhra Pradesh's tally of 8,147 new cases, Tamil Nadu reported 6,785 cases, followed by Karnataka (5,007), Telangana (1,640) and Kerala (885).
The positive cases were detected from a sample size of 48,114 tests. Friday's tests also included 22,989 rapid antigen tests. Andhra Pradesh stands out among the states with the highest number of tests conducted, with a total of 15,41,993.
The state's cumulative tally stands at 80,858 cases as on Friday.

With spike of 48, 916 cases , India's total count surge over 13 lakh
New Delhi: India reported a spike of 48,916 coronavirus cases on Saturday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 13,36,861 including 4,56,071 active cases, 8,49,431 cured/discharged/migrated. With 757 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 31,358.
Maharashtra has reported 3,57,117 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.
A total of 1,99,749 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded a total of 1,28,389 coronavirus cases.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 4,20,898 samples were tested for coronavirus on Friday and overall 1,58,49,068 samples have been tested so far.

Tamil Nadu on Friday reported a new single-day high of 6,785 fresh COVID-19 cases as the overall tally touched 199,749 while 88 fatalities propelled the death toll to 3,320, health officials said.
A total of 65,150 swab samples were tested and the total tally of such tests stands at 22,23,019.
A total number of 6,504 persons were discharged from various hospitals taking the total recoveries to 143,297.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 53,132, officials added.
The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 10,006.
The state capital continues to head the coronavirus infection table with 1,299 persons testing positive for the virus and the total tally stands at 92,206.
The active cases in the city stand at 13,743 while the total number of COVID-19 patients discharged in Chennai stood at 1,110.

After 2 days of highs, Maharashtra's Covid-19 deaths, cases decline
After two days of record-high COVID deaths and cases, Maharashtra notched a decline on both fronts, though the situation continued to remain grim on Friday, health officials said.
The state notched its third-highest 9,615 new COVID cases, down from the highest 10,576 (July 22), as fresh cases continued to soar in the 8K-plus range in the second half of July.
The number of deaths in the state continued to remain in the 200-plus range with 278 notched on Friday - lower than the peak single day's record toll of 298 recorded on July 23.
With the fresh fatalities, the state's death toll went up from 12,854 a day earlier to 13,132 now, while the total cases touched 357,117 - both highest in the country.
According to Friday's figures, there was one death roughly every 5 minutes and a stupendous 401 new cases every hour added to the state tally.
The state recovery rate increased for the second day from 55.09 per cent to 55.99 on Friday, while the current mortality (death) rate stood at 3.68 per cent.
The Health Department said that of the total cases till date, 143,714 are 'active cases' (ill) and that this number is lower (favourable) vis-a-vis the number of patients cured and discharged, indicating a positive sign

Andhra tops south India tally with record 8,147 cases
For the second consecutive day, Andhra Pradesh reported its highest single-day COVID count, surpassing the remaining south Indian states.
On Friday, the state reported an all-time high of 8,147 new cases in the 24 hours ending 9 a.m., state health officials said.
The previous single-day high of 7,998 cases was recorded on Thursday. Compared to Andhra Pradesh's tally of 8,147 new cases, Tamil Nadu reported 6,785 cases, followed by Karnataka (5,007), Telangana (1,640) and Kerala (885).
The positive cases were detected from a sample size of 48,114 tests. Friday's tests also included 22,989 rapid antigen tests. Andhra Pradesh stands out among the states with the highest number of tests conducted, with a total of 15,41,993.
The state's cumulative tally stands at 80,858 cases as on Friday.

With spike of 48, 916 cases , India's total count surge over 13 lakh
New Delhi: India reported a spike of 48,916 coronavirus cases on Saturday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 13,36,861 including 4,56,071 active cases, 8,49,431 cured/discharged/migrated. With 757 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 31,358.
Maharashtra has reported 3,57,117 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.
A total of 1,99,749 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded a total of 1,28,389 coronavirus cases.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 4,20,898 samples were tested for coronavirus on Friday and overall 1,58,49,068 samples have been tested so far.
