A man died of coronavirus at a state-run hospital here on Tuesday, taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths in West Bengal to 4, officials said.

The man, whose identity hasn't been revealed yet, died at the Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital.

West Bengal has reported 28 coronavirus cases so far, including the four deaths.

The total number of positive cases of coronavirus reached 101 in Karnataka on Tuesday after 13 more positive cases were reported in the state from March 30 5 pm to 2 pm today.

The total number of 101 includes three deaths and 8 discharged/cured cases, Karnataka Health Department stated.

Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 1,397 after 146 new patients were reported in the last 24-hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Of this little less than 1,400 cases, there are 1,238 active while 124 cured. The total figure also includes 35 fatalities.

65-year-old dies of COVID-19 in Punjab

A 65-year-old man who was coronavirus positive has died while undergoing treatment at PGI hospital on Tuesday, District Public Relations Office said in a statement.

The deceased, Om Prakash, was a resident of Nayagaon.

"All his 31 contacts have been placed under home quarantine under the supervision of the Health Department authorities. Besides this, 18 contacts, all residents of Mohali, of a resident of Sector -30B Chandigarh who was found coronavirus positive on Monday, have also been put under home quarantine," it added.

Bengal corona toll now three, one lakh home-quarantined in a single day

The death count from COVID 19 rose to three in West Bengal with the swab sample of a deceased woman turning out to be positive on Tuesday, triggering a series of protest demonstrations by nurses of a state-run hospital who alleged that the authorities had refused to keep her in isolation.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases increased to 27 as five more people tested positive for the deadly coronavirus infection, while alarmed authorities quarantined over one lakh people on Tuesday to prevent further spread of the disease.

The 48-year-old woman, admitted to the Howrah District Hospital on Sunday with severe respiratory disorder, was tested for coronavirus infection the same day. But she died on Monday night before the test results were available.

On Tuesday morning, the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) in its report detected the presence of the deadly virus in the woman's sample.

When the nurses got to know about it, they started an agitation, alleging the hospital superintendent had refused to heed their repeated requests to put the woman in the isolation ward.

A health department official said the government was considering shutting down the hospital for the time being.

On the other hand, the confirmed cases also continued to rise, the department in a bulletin said one female and four males, admitted in five different facilities have tested positive.

78 complete quarantine in Kashmir, sent home

As many as 78 people completed their 14-day mandatory quarantine in Kashmir on Tuesday and were given a warm send-off by police and staff of a city hotel where they were staying.

These persons had arrived here from Leh two weeks ago and were straightaway taken from the airport to the quarantine facility at the hotel.

As they walked out of the hotel, those present, including police and hotel staff, clapped and cheered them.

"It is shameful that those who hide their travel history are putting their families and the entire community in trouble," said Asif Rashid, one of those who were quarantined.

"For 14 days, we were taken care of; we were provided all facilities. I want to request all to stay put in their homes because the coronavirus situation is bad," said another person from Kupwara who didn't want to be named.

Nurse in Panchkula tests positive for COVID-19

A nurse has tested positive for COVID-19, said Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Panchkula, on Tuesday.

"One staff nurse of a hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula has tested positive for coronavirus. She has been admitted in the isolation ward," said the CMO.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases has touched 22 in the state.

According to the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has reported over 1,251 confirmed positive cases of coronavirus, including 32 deaths.

227 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths in last 24 hours: Govt

As many as 227 new coronavirus cases and three deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, the Centre said on Tuesday.

A total of 1,251 cases have been reported in the country so far.

"227 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, thus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 1,251 and the number of deaths to 32 in the country," Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, told media here.

He also said that the three deaths have been reported from Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

"The sudden increase in the number of confirmed cases has been due to delay in informing the authorities," Aggarwal added.

"To contain the spread of coronavirus, the ministry is working with the state governments on finding the contacts of the new cases which have been confirmed," he further said.

One more COVID-19 patient dies in MP, toll reaches 5

A 49-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Madhya Pradesh, taking the number of coronavirus deaths in the state to five, an official said on Tuesday.

The woman, a resident of Chandan Nagar, breathed her last at the Manorama Raje TB Hospital, an official from Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College said.

She had no travel history and was already suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, the official said. So far, 47 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in the state, including 27 from Indore.

Besides, Jabalpur has reported eight cases, Ujjain- five, Bhopal- three and Shivpuri and Gwalior- two each. They are being treated in different hospitals of the state. Among those who died, three are from Indore while two are from neighbouring Ujjain. 

Indore is the worst affected city in the state. The district administration has imposed curfew in the urban limits of the city from March 25.

Another COVID-19 patient dies in Bengal, death count 3

A man infected with the coronavirus died at a hospital in West Bengals Howrah district, taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths to three

in the state, a health department official said on Tuesday.

The man had recently travelled to the northern part of the state, he said.

"The person died on Monday night before test results came. His test results confirmed that he was infected with the coronavirus," the official said.

There were four new cases of coronavirus reported in West Bengal, taking the total number to 26 in the state, he added.

Five more people tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 225, a health official said. 

Among the new cases, two each were reported from Pune and Buldhana and one from Mumbai, he said. " The Mumbai civic health officials reported some 42 cases testing positive in the city alone on Monday evening, but their final lab reports are awaited. 

Hence, we have not shown it in the final report," the official said.

India on Monday witnessed one of the sharpest spike in the number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) as 227 people tested positive in 24 hours, taking the country's total to 1,251 with 32 deaths. However, 102 people have been cured.

The Union Health Ministry in its updated report said that 32 deaths have been reported in India so far, with highest eight from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat with five fatalities.

"A total of 102 patients have been cured and discharged," it said.

Among the 27 states and union territories having Coronavirus patients, Kerala has the highest tally of positive cases at 202, followed by Maharashtra at 198. Delhi recorded 87 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 82 positive cases from Uttar Pradesh.

India has been under a 21-day lockdown due to Coronavirus till April 14.

Earlier in the day, the government denied as rumours that the 21-day nationwide lockdown would be extended.

With 47 new cases, MMR COVID-19 count reaches 170

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region's COVID-19 count reached 170 on Monday with 47 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus, officials said.

While 29 of the new infections are in Mumbai, the rest 18 are from other parts of MMR, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said.

Also, an 80-year-old man, who suffered from acute respiratory distress, succumbed to COVID-19 at a private hospital here, taking the death toll in MMR to eight, including six in Mumbai, said the civic body's release.

He was a known case of hypertension and ischemic heart disease, and had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 29, the release added

The sprawling region consists of Mumbai city and parts of adjoining districts of Thane, Raigad and Palghar.

The release said on Monday, 206 people were checked at OPDs in the metropolis and 61 people admitted for suspected exposure.

One COVID-19 patient was discharged after recovery, taking the number of such persons in MMR to 15, the BMC release said."There were 18 new cases detected during tests conducted between March 24-28. As these 18 cases are included in the list today, there appears to be a rise in cases. It is mainly due to vigorous contact tracing by the health teams and enhanced testing in public and private labs," the release said.

The civic body said, as a containment measure, its teams and police had surveyed areas where COVID-19 patients reside, including 1 lakh houses and 3.87 lakh people.

78 complete quarantine in Kashmir, sent home

As many as 78 people completed their 14-day mandatory quarantine in Kashmir on Tuesday and were given a warm send-off by police and staff of a city hotel where they were staying.

These persons had arrived here from Leh two weeks ago and were straightaway taken from the airport to the quarantine facility at the hotel.

As they walked out of the hotel, those present, including police and hotel staff, clapped and cheered them.

"It is shameful that those who hide their travel history are putting their families and the entire community in trouble," said Asif Rashid, one of those who were quarantined.

"For 14 days, we were taken care of; we were provided all facilities. I want to request all to stay put in their homes because the coronavirus situation is bad," said another person from Kupwara who didn't want to be named.

Nurse in Panchkula tests positive for COVID-19

A nurse has tested positive for COVID-19, said Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Panchkula, on Tuesday.

"One staff nurse of a hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula has tested positive for coronavirus. She has been admitted in the isolation ward," said the CMO.

With this, the total number of coronavirus cases has touched 22 in the state.

According to the latest update by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has reported over 1,251 confirmed positive cases of coronavirus, including 32 deaths.

227 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths in last 24 hours: Govt

As many as 227 new coronavirus cases and three deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, the Centre said on Tuesday.

A total of 1,251 cases have been reported in the country so far.

"227 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, thus, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 1,251 and the number of deaths to 32 in the country," Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, told media here.

He also said that the three deaths have been reported from Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

"The sudden increase in the number of confirmed cases has been due to delay in informing the authorities," Aggarwal added.

"To contain the spread of coronavirus, the ministry is working with the state governments on finding the contacts of the new cases which have been confirmed," he further said.

One more COVID-19 patient dies in MP, toll reaches 5

A 49-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Madhya Pradesh, taking the number of coronavirus deaths in the state to five, an official said on Tuesday.

The woman, a resident of Chandan Nagar, breathed her last at the Manorama Raje TB Hospital, an official from Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College said.

She had no travel history and was already suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, the official said. So far, 47 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in the state, including 27 from Indore.

Besides, Jabalpur has reported eight cases, Ujjain- five, Bhopal- three and Shivpuri and Gwalior- two each. They are being treated in different hospitals of the state. Among those who died, three are from Indore while two are from neighbouring Ujjain. 

Indore is the worst affected city in the state. The district administration has imposed curfew in the urban limits of the city from March 25.

Another COVID-19 patient dies in Bengal, death count 3

A man infected with the coronavirus died at a hospital in West Bengals Howrah district, taking the total number of COVID-19 deaths to three

in the state, a health department official said on Tuesday.

The man had recently travelled to the northern part of the state, he said.

"The person died on Monday night before test results came. His test results confirmed that he was infected with the coronavirus," the official said.

There were four new cases of coronavirus reported in West Bengal, taking the total number to 26 in the state, he added.

Five more people tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 225, a health official said. 

Among the new cases, two each were reported from Pune and Buldhana and one from Mumbai, he said. " The Mumbai civic health officials reported some 42 cases testing positive in the city alone on Monday evening, but their final lab reports are awaited. 

Hence, we have not shown it in the final report," the official said.

India on Monday witnessed one of the sharpest spike in the number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) as 227 people tested positive in 24 hours, taking the country's total to 1,251 with 32 deaths. However, 102 people have been cured.

The Union Health Ministry in its updated report said that 32 deaths have been reported in India so far, with highest eight from Maharashtra, followed by Gujarat with five fatalities.

"A total of 102 patients have been cured and discharged," it said.

Among the 27 states and union territories having Coronavirus patients, Kerala has the highest tally of positive cases at 202, followed by Maharashtra at 198. Delhi recorded 87 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 82 positive cases from Uttar Pradesh.

India has been under a 21-day lockdown due to Coronavirus till April 14.

Earlier in the day, the government denied as rumours that the 21-day nationwide lockdown would be extended.

With 47 new cases, MMR COVID-19 count reaches 170

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region's COVID-19 count reached 170 on Monday with 47 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus, officials said.

While 29 of the new infections are in Mumbai, the rest 18 are from other parts of MMR, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials said.

Also, an 80-year-old man, who suffered from acute respiratory distress, succumbed to COVID-19 at a private hospital here, taking the death toll in MMR to eight, including six in Mumbai, said the civic body's release.

He was a known case of hypertension and ischemic heart disease, and had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 29, the release added

The sprawling region consists of Mumbai city and parts of adjoining districts of Thane, Raigad and Palghar.

The release said on Monday, 206 people were checked at OPDs in the metropolis and 61 people admitted for suspected exposure.

One COVID-19 patient was discharged after recovery, taking the number of such persons in MMR to 15, the BMC release said."There were 18 new cases detected during tests conducted between March 24-28. As these 18 cases are included in the list today, there appears to be a rise in cases. It is mainly due to vigorous contact tracing by the health teams and enhanced testing in public and private labs," the release said.

The civic body said, as a containment measure, its teams and police had surveyed areas where COVID-19 patients reside, including 1 lakh houses and 3.87 lakh people.
