41 more COVID patients die in Bengal; 2,294 fresh cases detected

The COVID-19 death toll in West Bengal rose to 1,490 on Wednesday after 41 people succumbed to the disease, the state health department said in a bulletin.

A total of 2,294 fresh cases of coronavirus infection pushed the state's tally to 65,258, the bulletin said. Since Tuesday, 2,094 patients have recovered from the disease, the highest in a single day so far. The number of active cases is 19,652 now.  A total of 17,144 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours, it added.

J-K records 540 fresh COVID-19 cases, 15 deaths; infection tally stands at 19,419

Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 540 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of infected persons to 19,419, even as 15 more deaths pushed the death toll to 348, officials said. There are 7,749 active cases in the Union Territory (UT), while 11,322 patients have recovered from the disease, they said.

"Fifteen people, who were COVID-19 positive, have died in the past 24 hours in Jammu and Kashmir," officials said, adding that all but one death was reported from Kashmir Valley.

The death toll of coronavirus infected persons stands at 348, of which, 323 are from the valley and 25 from the Jammu region, they said.

Haryana reports seven more COVID-19 deaths, 755 fresh cases

Haryana reported seven more COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, taking the toll to 413 as 755 new cases of the infection pushed the state's tally to 33,631. Two fatalities each were registered in Faridabad and Panipat districts and one death each was reported in Gurgaon, Sonipat and Rohtak, the Health department's daily bulletin said.

Record 917 new coronavirus cases in MP, 14 deaths

Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday recorded its highest single-day spike of 917 new coronavirus cases, 199 of them from Bhopal, taking the infection count in
the state to 30,134, health officials said.
With 14 patients succumbing to the viral infection on Wednesday, the death toll went up to 844, the officials said.

Tamil Nadu reports 6,426 new COVID-19 cases, 82 fatalities

Tamil Nadu's infection count rose to 2,34,114 with the addition of 6,426 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, while the death toll surged to 3,741 with 82 fatalities. The number of recoveries continued to be on the upswing with 5,927 people getting discharged after recovery from hospitals, totalling to 1,72,883, a health department bulletin said.
Active cases stood at 57,490. A total of 60,794 samples were tested today, taking the number of specimens tested so far to 25,36,660, the
bulletin said. Chennai reported 1,117 fresh cases and the cumulative count stood at 97,575.

Punjab reports 25 more deaths; 568 cases take tally to 14,946

Punjab on Wednesday reported a record 25 COVID-19 deaths on a single day and 568 coronavirus positive cases, taking the infection tally in the state to 14,946.

Ten deaths were reported from Jalandhar, nine from Ludhiana, three from Amritsar, two from Gurdaspur and one from Patiala, the state's daily medical bulletin said on Wednesday.
With this, the death toll jumped to 361 in the state, as per the bulletin.

1,035 new COVID-19 cases take Delhi's tally to 1,33,310; death toll mounts to 3,907

Delhi recorded 1,035 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the tally in the city to over 1.33 lakh, while the death toll from the disease climbed to 3,907, authorities said. On Monday, the daily cases count had dipped to 613, the lowest in two months. It was 1,056 on Tuesday.

Twenty-six more fatalities have been recorded in the city, the Delhi Health department bulletin said on Wednesday. The death toll due to the infection has risen to 3,907, and the total number of cases stands at 1,33,310, it said.

The number of active cases is 10,770, down from 10,887 the previous day. On June 23, the national capital had reported its highest single-day spike of 3,947 new cases.

COVID-19: Gujarat adds record 1,144 cases; 24 die, 783 recover

Gujarat reported 1,144 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest single-day spike, taking the tally to 59,126, the state health department said. Fatalities rose to 2,396 with the death of 24 more COVID-19 patients, it said.

The number of recovered cases in the state rose to 43,195 after 783 more patients were discharged from hospitals, the health department said in a release.

There are 13,535 active cases in the state, where 89 patients are on ventilators, the department said. Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive
cases 59,126, new cases 1,144, deaths 2,396, discharged 43,195, active cases 13,535, people tested so far 7,13,006.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra on Wednesday crossed the 4 lakh-mark and reached 4,00,651 with addition of 9,211 new patients, state Health
department said.
The number of fatalities mounted by 298, including 60 in Mumbai, to 14,463, Health Minster Rajesh Tope said. A total of 7,478 patients were discharged in the day,
taking the number of recovered cases in the state to 2,39,755. Maharashtra now has 1,46,129 active cases. A total of 20,16,234 people have been tested so far in
the state, the department said.

UP reports 3,383 new COVID-19 cases, tally crosses 77,000-mark

Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday reported 3,383 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the infection tally to more than 77,000, while 33 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,530.
"There are 29,997 active COVID-19 cases in the state and 45,807 patients have been discharged after treatment, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.

Daily cases cross 10,000 in AP; Tally rises to 1.20 lakh

Coronavirus cases rocketed to 1,20,390 in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday as it logged a new single-day high of 10,093 infections, the state government
said.
It also said a record number of 70,584 tests were done during the last 24 hours ending at 9 AM. The state saw 65 new COVID-19 deaths during the period,
taking the toll to 1,213.

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli on Wednesday said he and his family members have tested positive for coronavirus and are currently quarantined at home. The director, best known for his epic fantasy hit "Baahubali" series, said they got tested after they developed mild fever recently which subsided by itself. 

"My family members and I developed a slight fever few days ago. It subsided by itself but we got tested nevertheless. The result has shown a mild COVID positive today. We have home quarantined as prescribed by the doctors (sic)" he said.

In a subsequent tweet, Rajamouli said he and his kin are asymptomatic and "feeling better". They are, however, following all the precautions and instructions.  "Just waiting to develop antibodies so that we can donate our plasma," he added.

One more MP minister tests COVID-19 positive, third so far

One more minister in Madhya Pradesh has tested coronavirus positive, becoming the third member of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan's council of ministers,
apart from the chief minister himself, to contract the infection. Minister of State (Independent charge) for Backward Class and Minority Welfare Ramkhelawan Patel is the latest one to test positive.
In a message to people, Patel said, "I got myself, my family and other staff members tested for coronavirus and my report is found to be positive." The minister is in the MLA Rest House at present and will be shifted to a private hospital soon.

Puducherry: Puducherry registered 166 fresh cases of coronavirus, highest single day spurt on Wednesday, taking the tally of infections in the union territory to 3,171.

Muzaffarnagar: Jail authorities in Uttar Pradesh have banned inmates from meeting their relatives on rakshabandhan in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, an official said on Wednesday.

The relatives of the inmates can send rakhis for them to the jail counter before or on August 1, District Jail Superintendent AK Saxena said.

Telangana clocks 1,764 new COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths


Hyderabad: Telangana continued to witness a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases with 1,764 additions and 12 deaths being reported, taking the tally of those who tested positive to the virus to 58,906. 

Out of the fresh cases, 509 were reported from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts with 158 and 147 cases respectively, a state government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on July 28.

Eleven people, including six Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a policeman, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the state's tally to 395, a health department official said on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, 10 were reported from Aizawl district and one from Lawngtlai, he said.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha's COVID-19 tally crossed the 29,000 mark on Wednesday after 1,068 more people tested positive for the disease, while the death toll rose to 159 with five more patients succumbing to the infection, a Health Department official said.

The total number of coronavirus patients in the state now stands at 29,175, he said.

91 new COVID-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh; tally rises to 1,330

Ninety-one people, including 19 security personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the northeastern state's caseload to 1,330 on Wednesday, a senior health department official said.

Of the total cases, 710 are active as 617 people have recovered from the disease and three have died, state Surveillance Officer L Jampa said.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 15-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 tally went past 15 lakh on Wednesday, two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark, with48,513fresh cases recorded in a day while the recoveries surged to9,88,029, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases climbed to15,31,669, while the country's death toll due to the disease rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths being reported in a 24-hour span, the data updated at 8 am showed.

There are 5,09,447 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently.

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has risen to 64.51 per cent.

The Noida Stadium has reopened for athletes and the public with curtailed timings on Wednesday after staying closed for more than four months due to the COVID-19 outbreak, officials said.

A slew of guidelines have been issued which include mandatory installation of the Aarogya Setu app on mobile phones of visitors seeking entry into the stadium, among others.

Located in Sector 21 of the city, the stadium is managed by the Noida Authority, which had ordered its closure on March 15 in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.

DM, SP of Tripura's Sepahijala test Covid-19 positive

The top two officials of Tripura's border Sepahijala district on Tuesday tested positive for Covid-19.

Health officials said that District Magistrate Chandra Kumar Jamatia and Superintendent of Police Krishnendu Chakraborty have tested positive.

"At least 50 contacts of the DM and the SP are likely to be infected. Efforts are on to test the samples of the suspected and contact persons," a health official told IANS.

A state government official said that other officials would be appointed during the treatment of the infected officials.

In Tripura, eight more persons lost their lives due to Covid-19 during the past 24 hours at the Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital, taking the death toll to 21.

Aizawl (Mizoram): Mizoram reported 11 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, taking the total cases in the state to 395, said the Department of Information and Public Relations of Mizoram government.

According to the official data, the state has 197 active cases in the state currently, while 198 people have been cured of the viral infection.

No deaths have been reported due to COVID-19 in the state.

6 BSF personnel, 1 policeman among 11 fresh COVID-19 cases in Mizoram
       

Eleven people, including six Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a policeman, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the state's tally to 395, a health department official said on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, 10 were reported from Aizawl district and one from Lawngtlai, he said.

Odisha's COVID-19 tally crosses 29,000 mark, death toll rises to 159

Bhubaneswar: Odisha's COVID-19 tally crossed the 29,000 mark on Wednesday after 1,068 more people tested positive for the disease, while the death toll rose to 159 with five more patients succumbing to the infection, a Health Department official said.

The total number of coronavirus patients in the state now stands at 29,175, he said.

91 new COVID-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh; tally rises to 1,330

Ninety-one people, including 19 security personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the northeastern state's caseload to 1,330 on Wednesday, a senior health department official said.

Of the total cases, 710 are active as 617 people have recovered from the disease and three have died, state Surveillance Officer L Jampa said.

India's COVID-19 tally crosses 15-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 tally went past 15 lakh on Wednesday, two days after it crossed the 14-lakh mark, with48,513fresh cases recorded in a day while the recoveries surged to9,88,029, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases climbed to15,31,669, while the country's death toll due to the disease rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths being reported in a 24-hour span, the data updated at 8 am showed.

There are 5,09,447 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently.

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has risen to 64.51 per cent.

Athletes asked to bring own water, Aarogya Setu app must for entry as Noida stadium reopens


The Noida Stadium has reopened for athletes and the public with curtailed timings on Wednesday after staying closed for more than four months due to the COVID-19 outbreak, officials said.

A slew of guidelines have been issued which include mandatory installation of the Aarogya Setu app on mobile phones of visitors seeking entry into the stadium, among others.

Located in Sector 21 of the city, the stadium is managed by the Noida Authority, which had ordered its closure on March 15 in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.

1,77,43,740 samples tested for COVID-19 in India till July 28: ICMR

A total of 1,77,43,740 samples for COVID-19 were tested across the country as of Tuesday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research.

"The total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to July 28 is 1,77,43,740 including 4,08,855 samples tested yesterday," said the ICMR in a bulletin shared on Twitter.

DM, SP of Tripura's Sepahijala test Covid-19 positive

The top two officials of Tripura's border Sepahijala district on Tuesday tested positive for Covid-19.

Health officials said that District Magistrate Chandra Kumar Jamatia and Superintendent of Police Krishnendu Chakraborty have tested positive.

"At least 50 contacts of the DM and the SP are likely to be infected. Efforts are on to test the samples of the suspected and contact persons," a health official told IANS.

A state government official said that other officials would be appointed during the treatment of the infected officials.

In Tripura, eight more persons lost their lives due to Covid-19 during the past 24 hours at the Agartala Government Medical College and Hospital, taking the death toll to 21.

11 new COVID-19 cases in Mizoram in past 24 hours  

Aizawl (Mizoram): Mizoram reported 11 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, taking the total cases in the state to 395, said the Department of Information and Public Relations of Mizoram government.

According to the official data, the state has 197 active cases in the state currently, while 198 people have been cured of the viral infection.

No deaths have been reported due to COVID-19 in the state.
