Biggest one-day spike takes MP tally beyond 16,000

Madhya Pradesh recorded the biggest single-day spike of 409 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, due to which the count of patients in the state

crossed the 16,000-mark, a health official said. The state's tally now stands at 16,036, he said. Of the 409 new cases, Morena alone accounted for 115, the official said.

With the death of seven COVID-19 patients, the toll in the state reached 629, he said.

Maha: BJP MLA tests COVID-19 positive in Latur

BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar has tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra's Latur district, a senior official said on Wednesday. Taking to Twitter, the MLA from Ausa Assembly constituency said his test reports came out positive for the infection and he is undergoing treatment at a hospital, where his condition remains stable.

In the highest ever single day jump in Kerala, as many as 301 people tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, taking the infection

tally to 6,195, state Health Minister K K Shailaja said. While 2,605 people were presently under treatment, as many as 107 were discharged on Wednesday, taking the cumulative recoveries to 3,561,she said in a press release.

Army jawan, 8 others test positive for COVID-19 in HP, tally now at 1,093

Nine more people, including army personnel and a four-year-old girl, tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, pushing the state's tally to 1,093, officials said.

The state has seen 10 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus.The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 260. As many as 808 people have recovered from the infection so far, while 13 have migrated out of the state, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

Maharashtra: 278 more cops test coronavirus positive, tally 5,713

With 278 more police personnel testing positive for novel coronavirus in Maharashtra, the number of the infected cases in the police force has gone up to 5,713, an official said on Wednesday.

A total of 71 police personnel have succumbed to the viral infection so far, he said. At 43, the highest death toll of police personnel has been reported from Mumbai. The deceased included two officers, he added.

The number of coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh crossed the 30,000-mark on Wednesday as 1,188 fresh cases were reported in the state, with 18 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said 31,156 people have tested positive for the disease in the state, he said.

Three new cases of coronavirus were recorded in Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi, taking the tally to 2,338 on Wednesday, the city civic body said.

Assam reports five more COVID-19 fatalities; death toll rises to 21

Assam reported five more COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday, taking the state's death toll due to the disease to 21 while the total number of cases stood at 13,336, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Four patients died at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and one succumbed to the infection at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH), he said.

All the four men who died at GMCH were aged above 60, with the oldest being 75. They were on invasive ventilation and had severe pneumonia, urosepsis and septic shock, the minister said.

Pondy records highest surge of 112

Puducherry registered its highest-ever single day spurt of 112 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the aggregate number of those infected by the virus in the Union Territory to 1,151.

Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said a total of 112 new cases were registered in Puducherry, Karaikal and Yanam regions during the last 24 hours ending 10 am. today, while Mahe continued to have seven cases taking the total infections to 1,151.

Gujarat minister tests positive for coronavirus

A Gujarat minister has tested positive for coronavirus, state Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said on Wednesday.         

"The minister has been admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad after he tested positive for coronavirus," Patel, who holds charge of the health department, said ahead of the state cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar.         

The BJP MLA from Valsad district is the first state minister to have contracted the viral infection.         

On Tuesday, a senior Congress leader from Gujarat battling COVID-19 was put on ventilator support.         

A BJP MLA from Surat and a Congress legislator from Banaskantha district also tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.

Capital Complex SP office in Arunachal sealed after woman constable tests COVID-19 positive

The office of the Superintendent of Police in Arunachal Pradesh's Capital Complex region, where a week-long total lockdown is underway, has been sealed after a woman constable deployed there tested positive for COVID-19, a top police officer said on Wednesday.

Director-General of Police (DGP), R P Upadhaya, said that the Capital Complex SP office was sealed on Tuesday evening and its 80 staff members will be tested for COVID-19 during the day.

7 more Covid-19 patients die in Odisha

As many as seven more Covid-19 patients died in Odisha, informed the health department on Wednesday.

Out of the seven deaths, six died of Covid-19 while one patient succumbed to HIV-AIDS.

Three of the deceased are from Ganjam, while two are from Khordha and one each from Kendrapara and Rayagada.

With this, the number of corona related deaths in the state climbed to 48 while 13 patients have died due to other health complications, said the department.

Odisha also reported 527 fresh Covid-19 positive cases in last 24 hours. This is the second consecutive day that the state recorded Covid-19 cases over 500-mark.

Out of the fresh cases, 338 were reported from quarantine centres and 189 are local contacts. Ganjam, which is the worst affected district in the state, has reported the highest 215 cases.

The total positive tally in Odisha increased to 10,624 including 3,860 active cases and 6,703 recoveries.

Another Odisha MLA tests COVID-19 positive

A day after a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker contracted COVID-19 in Odisha, ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Prasant Behera has also tested positive for coronavirus, said an official on Wednesday.

Salipur MLA Behera is the second Legislator in Odisha to have got the infection.

Apart from Behera, his personal security person and driver have also contracted the virus. They have been shifted to a COVID hospital in Cuttack, said the official.

The Cuttack district administration has initiated contact tracing as the MLA had attended several programmes in his constituency.

Earlier, BJP's Nilgiri MLA Sukanta Kumar Nayak had tested positive for COVID-19.

India records 7.42 lakh coronavirus cases, 20,642 deaths

India recorded over 22,752 new cases and 482 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 7,42,417 with 20,642 deaths, Health Ministry's data revealed on Wednesday.

According to the data, out of total 7,42,417 cases, 4,56,830 have recovered while 2,64,944 remain active in the country. India is the third-worst affected country after the US and Brazil.

During the last 24 hours, 2,62,679 samples have been tested, as the testing lab network continues to expand. As on date, more than 1,115 labs have enabled people to undergo corona tests.

On Tuesday, the central government cited a World Health Organisation (WHO) situation report and claimed the country had one of the lowest coronavirus deaths and cases per million population. The recovery rate has surpassed 61 per cent, it added.

With a spike of more than 5,134 cases in just one day, Maharashtra remains the worst-hit state with cases reaching up to 2,11,987 and 9,250 casualties so far, of which 224 occurred in the last 24 hours.

Tamil Nadu remained the second-worst hit with a total of 1,18,594 cases, including 1,636 deaths.

With 2,008 new coronavirus cases and 50 deaths in the last 24 hours, the national capital recorded a total tally of 1,02,831 and 3,165 deaths. The recovered patients in the city are almost three times that of the active coronavirus cases.

States with more than 10,000 cases include Gujarat with 37,550 cases and 1,977 deaths, Uttar Pradesh (29,968), Rajasthan (21,404), Madhya Pradesh (15,627), West Bengal (23,837), Haryana (17,999), Karnataka (26,815), Andhra Pradesh (21,197), Telangana (27,612) and Bihar (12,570) cases.

On the global front, the overall number of cases have increased to more than 11.7 million, while the deaths have soared to over 5,43,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Telangana reports 1,879 new coronavirus cases, 7 deaths

As many as 1,879 new coronavirus cases and 7 deaths were reported on Tuesday, as per the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of positive cases recorded in the state is 27,612 including 16,287 who have been cured and discharged from hospitals. The cumulative death toll due to coronavirus in the state stands at 313.

Presently, 11,012 COVID-19 patients are being treated in different hospitals.

Delhi reports over 2,000 new coronavirus cases, 50 deaths

With 2,008 new cases, Delhi's coronavirus count touched 1,02,831 on Tuesday.

2,129 were recovered/discharged/migrated in the last 24 hours and 50 new deaths were reported in the national capital.

According to the Delhi Government, the total number of positive cases in the national capital stands at 1,02,831 including 74,217 recovered/discharged/migrated and 3,165 deaths.

24 COVID-19 positive out of 1,378 samples tested in Tripura

Out of 1,378 samples tested for COVID-19, 24 people have tested positive in the state, said Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday.

According to the latest data available on the website of the Ministry of Health Affairs, there are 460 active cases of coronavirus in the state with 1219 cured/migrated/discharged and 1 death.

As many as 1,134 new COVID-19 cases and 29 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours in Pune district.

The total number of positive cases recorded in the state is 27,612 including 16,287 who have been cured and discharged from hospitals. The cumulative death toll due to coronavirus in the state stands at 313.

Presently, 11,012 COVID-19 patients are being treated in different hospitals.

Delhi reports over 2,000 new coronavirus cases, 50 deaths

With 2,008 new cases, Delhi's coronavirus count touched 1,02,831 on Tuesday.

2,129 were recovered/discharged/migrated in the last 24 hours and 50 new deaths were reported in the national capital.

According to the Delhi Government, the total number of positive cases in the national capital stands at 1,02,831 including 74,217 recovered/discharged/migrated and 3,165 deaths.

44 new coronavirus cases in Indore

As many as 44 new coronavirus cases and 3 deaths were reported in Indore on Tuesday, according to Chief Medical and Health Officer Praveen Jadia.

The total number of cases in the district has reached 4,998 and death toll at 252.

With a spike of 22,252 cases, India's COVID-19 count breached the seven lakh mark and reached 7,19,665 on Tuesday, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

24 COVID-19 positive out of 1,378 samples tested in Tripura

Out of 1,378 samples tested for COVID-19, 24 people have tested positive in the state, said Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday.

According to the latest data available on the website of the Ministry of Health Affairs, there are 460 active cases of coronavirus in the state with 1219 cured/migrated/discharged and 1 death.

Pune reports 1,134 new coronavirus cases, 29 deaths

As many as 1,134 new COVID-19 cases and 29 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours in Pune district.

The total positive cases stand at 30,978 and the death toll at 919, according to Dr Bhagawan Pawar, District Health Officer, Pune.

Assam: A total of 814 new COVID-19 cases were detected on Tuesday in Assam taking the total number of cases in the state to 13336, according to Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

There are around 4988 active cases with 8329 discharged and 16 deaths.
