Coronavirus: Passengers from US, France, Spain to be segregated at airports

New Delhi: Passengers from 15 countries, including the US, France and Spain, will also be segregated from other passengers till the conveyer belt areas at airports, according to the AAI.

Passengers from arriving from China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Iran, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hongkong, Vietnam, Nepal and Indonesia are already being segregated from other arriving passengers at the airports.

The government has been taking various steps, including universal screening of passengers, amid rising number of cases of coronavirus infection. More than a lakh people have been infected worldwide and at least 43 have tested positive in India.

 An Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson said passengers from the US, France and Spain would also be segregated.

AAI Chairman Arvind Singh along with officials from the health ministry and aviation regulator DGCA, among others, reviewed arrangements made at all international airports to control the spread of coronavirus.

Coronavirus: Test report of 2 foreign nationals awaited

Panaji: The Mormugao Port Trust in Goa has banned the entry of cruise vessels till March 31 in view of the novel coronavirus threat, a senior official said on Monday.

State health department officials said the test report of the samples of two foreigners, who were kept under observation at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for suspected exposure to the virus, were awaited and may come in by late Monday evening.

Another 19 people are under home observation in the state, an official said.

Man kept in isolation for suspected coronavirus infection in Meghalaya

Shillong: A 38-year-old man has been kept under isolation at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences here for suspected COVID-19 infection, an official said on Monday.

The patient who returned from Delhi on Sunday was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of cough and fever, and he was immediately shifted to the isolation ward, state Health Commissioner and Secretary Sampath Kumar said in a statement.

The doctors at the hospital are trying to trace out his point of contact and taking precautions, he said. The sample collected from the patient is being sent to Kolkata-based lab at ICMR for corona test, he said.

The district administration appealed to the people not to panic and stay calm, and strictly follow the advisory given by the state health department.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed that 13 hospitals across the state have been asked to set up isolation wards to handle the situation in case people are infected with the coronavirus.

Italy-returned Hoshiarpur man tests corona positive in first case of Punjab: Health Secy

Chandigarh: A Hoshiarpur resident, who returned from Italy last week, has been tested positive for coronavirus afflictions, becoming the first such case in Punjab, an official said here on Monday.

"The man who returned to Amritsar by an Air India flight from Milan in Italy has tested positive for coronavirus. He had landed at Amritsar International Airport via Delhi on March 4 along with his two other family members," Punjab Principal Secretary (Health) Anurag Aggarwal said.

The patient is a resident of Hoshiarpur, he said, adding he was tracked at the Amritsar airport and got admitted to a government hospital in Amritsar.

After he was found corona positive last week after preliminary investigation, his samples were sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune, which confirmed on Monday that the man is suffering from, coronavirus afflictions.

IndiGo cancels flights to Doha till March 17

New Delhi: Budget carrier IndiGo on Monday said it is cancelling flights to Doha till March 17, following travel ban imposed by Qatar on Indian nationals due to coronavirus scare.

Qatar has temporarily banned entry of people coming from India and 13 other countries in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, which has infected thousands of people.

In a statement, the airline said it would be cancelling flights to Doha till March 17.

India to use globemaster aircraft to evacuate citizens from Iran

India will send a C-17 Globemaster military aircraft to coronavirus-hit Iran on Monday night to evacuate stranded Indians from there, sources said on Monday. It will fly to Iran at around 8 p.m. from Hindon, sources said.

India is in touch with Iran on possible evacuation of Indian pilgrims and students stuck in the coronavirus-hit nation, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said in the Parliament last Thursday. An estimated 1,200 Indians, mostly students and pilgrims, are in Iran currently.

"If the Iranian government lends its support, a testing facility could be set up there as well, so that Indians there can be tested before they can be brought back," Vardhan had said.

Kerala reopens 24-hour coronavirus control rooms as new cases surface

Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday took to Twitter to inform that 24-hour control rooms have been reopened due to new cases of coronavirus being reported from the state.

"As new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the State, the 24-hour control room has been reopened," he tweeted.

In the post, he also listed three helpline numbers for COVID-19 related queries. "Contact for #COVID19 related queries: 0471 2309250 0471 2309251 0471 2309252," he added.

Delhi HC asks lawyers, litigants to avoid overcrowding court premises

New Delhi:  With India fighting hard to prevent spread of Coronavirus, the Delhi High Court has asked lawyers and litigants to avoid "unnecessary overcrowding" of the court premises.

A circular issued recently by high court registrar (general administration) Ramesh Chand said as per an advisory by the Delhi government, people should avoid going to crowded places and requested the advocates and general public to adhere to the guidelines.

"As per the recent advisory issued by the Delhi government, Coronavirus is a contagious virus which causes respiratory infection and can be transferred from human to human through air by coughing, sneezing, personal contact such as touching or shaking hand, touching an object or surface with the virus on it and then touching mouth, nose or eyes with unwashed hands," the circular said.

Govt health officials set up temporary medical camp at Fulbari Integrated Check Post in West Bengal

The health officials of the West Bengal government have set up a temporary medical camp at Fulbari Integrated Check Post (ICP), scanning those entering India from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan amid coronavirus outbreak in the country.

"The new cases include one from Delhi with travel history to Italy, one from Jammu with travel history in Iran and one from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh who was infected by six persons who were found positive in Agra. The UP patient was found through contact tracing", said Sanjeeva Kumar, Special Secretary, Union Health Ministry.

He also clarified that the patient from Murshidabad, West Bengal tested negative for COVID-19 and hence, no death has been reported due to COVID-19 in the country so far.

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday said that close to 9 lakh passengers coming from other countries have been screened in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.

"On 18 January we started universal screening on 7 airports and now 30 airports have been put under screening. All passengers coming from other countries are being screened on airports. So far, 8,74,708 passengers have been screened," Vardhan told reporters at a press conference.

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh on Monday informed that one patient who tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday is in a stable condition.

"The chief minister conducted a detailed review meeting with all the concerned departments today. One patient has tested positive for Coronavirus. For the last 24 hours, the patient is asymptomatic and is stable. We have 330 isolation wards; we will be sprucing up all facilities soon," said Beela Rajesh.

Delhi airport takes measures to tackle Coronavirus scare

New Delhi: Delhi Airport on Monday said that the airport is taking all necessary precautions to combat the virus.

The statement read: "The Delhi Airport is taking precautions to stay safe and keep the coronavirus away from our doorstep."

The Twitter handle of Delhi Airport also attached some photographs on the precautions being taken at the airport.

The statement added, "Now is the time to prepare for COVID-19. Simple precautions and planning can make a big difference."

There were 43 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country.

New Delhi: In the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hold meet over coronavirus scare in which Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, and Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal were present to discuss the preventive measures to be taken with regards to the disease.

Delhi Chief Minister CM Arvind Kejriwal after the meeting said, "Delhi Metro coaches and DTC buses are being sanitised; those who are healthy are not required to wear face-masks."

"The government is prepared to tackle the virus. We will not put hoardings, distribute pamphlets to create awareness among people," he said, urging the public to not panic.

Both Central and the State government will work together to fight from Coronavirus.

Man under observation for coronavirus goes missing from Karnataka hospital

Mangaluru: A person who arrived at the airport here from Dubai and was admitted to the isolation ward of a hospital with symptoms of coronavirus has gone missing.  

The patient, who arrived on Sunday, was shifted to the district Wenlock hospital with a high fever and a few symptoms of coronavirus.

The hospital health officer called up the police and a high alert has been sounded in coastal districts to locate the person who has 'escaped' from the hospital.

As COVID-19 cases surge, Kerala put on high alert

With a three-year-old child testing positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kerala's Kochi on Monday, the authorities have put the state on high alert as they suspect a few more cases might turn positive.

The total number of positive cases have climbed to six in Kerala.

The child had travelled from Italy along with parents and arrived on March 7. On arrival at the Kochi airport after preliminary checkups was placed under observation.

State Health Minister K.K.Shailaja said on Monday that strong action will be taken against those who fail to abide by health advisories that were being issued.

Teenaged boy from US tests negative for coronavirus

A teenaged boy who had arrived here from the US has tested negative for coronavirus infection, a senior Tamil Nadu Health Department official said on Monday.

"The 15-year-old boy tested negative... now, it is for doctors treating him at the government hospital here to decide when to send him home," the official, who did not wished to be named, said.

On Sunday morning, the boy along with his parents had arrived in Chennai from US and showed high body temperature during screening. He was taken to the government hospital, where his blood samples were drawn for testing. The test results came on Monday.

First confirmed coronavirus case in J-K

Jammu: A 63-year-old woman tested positive for coronavirus here, making her the first confirmed case in Jammu and Kashmir.

The woman, who had a travel history to Iran, was among two patients who were declared "high viral load cases" by the administration on the weekend.

They are undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital and are in a stable condition.

"The test report of the woman patient is positive, while the report of the other patient is still awaited," a Health Department official said.

Bhubaneswar: A testing facility for detection of novel coronavirus was unveiled in a government- run medical research unit here, though no positive case of the disease has been found so far in Odisha.

The coronavirus testing facility is now available in the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), and the first sample has already been tested at the institute, which was found to be negative, health department's secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal said.

Samples of the 32 persons screened for possible novel coronavirus infection have tested negative in Chhattisgarh.

So far no confirmed case of novel coronavirus has been reported in the state, they said.

"In Chhattisgarh, a total of 36 samples have been sent for COVID-19 test so far, of which, 32 are found to be negative while reports of the rest four are awaited."

Holidays for kindergarten classes ordered in Bengaluru

In view of the novel coronavirus outbreak worldwide and detection of a few positive cases in neighbouring states, the Karnataka government has ordered holidays for children in lower and upper kindergarten classes in Bengaluru.

The decision was taken on the advice of Karnataka Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey.

The minister for primary and secondary school education S Suresh Kumar tweeted late Sunday night, "Further to the advice received from the health commissioner, holidays have been declared for KJG/UKG classes in Bengaluru North, South & Rural Districts."

Coronavirus: 3 quarantined in Indore, 19 test negative

Three people who returned from coronavirus-affected regions in the past nine day were on Sunday quarantined for suspected exposure in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, a senior health official said on Sunday.

Indore District Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Praveen Jadia said the three, including a 34-year-old woman, had returned from the United States and Malaysia.

The samples of 19 people kept in isolation wards for suspected exposure to the virus returned negative, while reports of two others are awaited, Additional Director, Health, Dr Vina Sinha said.

Govt plans to bring back Indians from coronavirus-hit Iran

New Delhi: The Cabinet Secretary held the 16th review meeting on coronavirus on Sunday and preparations to bring Indian citizens back from Iran were discussed.

Meanwhile, five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed on Sunday in Kerala that took the total count in India to 39. They have a travel history to Italy, participants in the government's review meeting were told. 

A government release said that Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan is continuously monitoring and reviewing the status. He is also keeping a regular tab on actions and future preparedness of states. The Health Secretary is tasked to review the situation with states and Union Territories on a regular basis and he is holding regular talks with them. 

Since the disease has spread across more than 90 countries with over 1 lakh cases worldwide, the states and UTs have been asked to enhance community surveillance. 

Also, in view of rising cases from France, USA, and Spain, it was decided to have dedicated aerobridges for flights from these countries also in addition to the currently 12 virus-hit countries. 

Meanwhile, the government has reiterated do's and don'ts like wearing masks and more importantly how and when to use a mask.

CG: 32 of 36 samples test negative for novel coronavirus

Samples of the 32 persons screened for possible novel coronavirus infection have tested negative in Chhattisgarh, a health official said on Sunday.

"So far no confirmed case of novel coronavirus has been reported in the state," they said.

"In Chhattisgarh, a total of 36 samples have been sent for COVID-19 test so far, of which, 32 are found to be negative while reports of the rest four are awaited," the official said.

The samples are being tested at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Raipur. 

"Till date, a total of 27 persons, have been kept in home isolation and under surveillance while nine others have completed 28 days of observation," he said.

A diabetic man died in the isolation ward of a hospital in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on Sunday, a day after he was admitted there with suspected symptoms of coronavirus following his return from Saudi Arabia.        

According to doctors, he was admitted to the hospital with fever, cough and cold. Though test results of his blood and swab samples for novel coronavirus were awaited, it can be said that Janarul Haque died probably of diabetes, Director of Health Services Ajay Chakraborty told mediapersons.

Coronavirus: Buses, metro to be disinfected on regular basis, says Kejriwal

New Delhi: The Delhi government has ordered DTC and cluster buses, metro and hospitals to be disinfected on a regular basis as a precautionary measure to deal with the novel coronavirus, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said that three cases of coronavirus have been reported in Delhi so far and one case is still under investigation.
The chief minister said that 168 isolation beds have been set up at 25 hospitals for coronavirus patients. 

He appealed to the people in Delhi that if anybody from their neighbourhood had returned from foreign countries in the past 14 days, they should inform the government.

The chief minister, who chaired a state task force on Sunday, said the government was fully prepared to deal with the novel coronavirus, adding that people do not need to panic.

"An order has been issued to disinfect DTC, cluster buses, Delhi Metro and hospitals every day," he said.

"Three cases of coronavirus have been reported in Delhi so far. One case is still under under investigation. I want to tell this to everyone that the Delhi government is worried about it but we are fully prepared to tackle it. 

There is no need to panic and we need everyone's cooperation," he said.

New Delhi: In order to spread awareness, a special COVID-19 mobile phone caller tune was launched by all telecom operators with basic infection prevention messages played when a caller dials-out, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.

"In order to spread awareness about COVID-19, a special COVID-19 mobile phone caller tune was launched by all telecom operators. Over 117.2 crore subscribers of BSNL, MTNL Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are being progressively reached out to through SMSs and Call Backs," Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a press statement.

"As many as 52 laboratories are now operational across the country for testing the COVID-19 virus. An additional 57 laboratories have been provided with Viral Transport Media and swabs for sample collection," the statement added.

India has 39 confirmed cases of deadly coronavirus so far. The disease has caused deaths of 3200 people globally.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said that Kerala has been put on high alert after five Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the state. 

"The state has been put on high alert following confirmation of five coronavirus positive cases. Those returning from Covid-19 affected countries should immediately contact the health authorities," Vijayan said in a statement.

He also urged people to follow the guidelines issued by the health department. 

Earlier, Centre had suspended visas and e-visas granted on or before March 3 to people traveling from Italy, Iran, South Korea and Japan, effective immediately, after a surge in cases of Covid-19 in these countries.

Saudi-returned Covid-19 suspect hospitalised in Murshidabad

Kolkata: A suspected coronavirus patient, who returned from Saudi Arabia, was on Sunday admitted in a state-run Medical College in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

The youth fell sick while returning home by the train on Saturday after flying to the NSCBI Airport here earlier in the day from Saudi Arabia, where he works as a cleaner.

On Sunday, his family members took him to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Baahrampur were the doctors admitted him after a preliminary check-up.

His throat swab sample has been collected, and he has been kept at an isolation ward.

Govt plans to bring back Indians from coronavirus-hit Iran

New Delhi: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday asked people to not be afraid of the new coronavirus as the government has made adequate arrangements to contain its spread and urged them to take precautions "because prevention is better than cure".

The virus has infected 39 people across the country, including 16 Italians visiting India. The government has stepped up efforts to screen people at entry points into the country and set up facilities to quarantine suspected and confirmed cases.

Worldwide, the number of coronavirus cases stood at over 1,05,800, including 3,595 deaths.

"There is panic in the world over coronavirus but there is no need to be afraid of it. Just take precautions because prevention is better than cure," Adityanath said at a public meeting during the 'Mukhyamantri Arogya Mela' at primary health centre in Kushinagar district.

"Our government has set up an isolation ward in every district for suspected patients. There is complete arrangement for their treatment," he added.

The chief minister congratulated people on International Women's Day and felicitated 10 women for doing excellent work in different fields.

He said a society plagued by discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, religion or gender cannot progress. Adityanath said collective efforts can become the basis of empowerment.

The 'Mukhyamantri Arogya Mela' is being organised at all primary health centres of the state since February 2. Every Sunday, a team of doctors gives free consultation to patients at the health centres.

Coronavirus: Passengers from US, France, Spain to be segregated at airports

New Delhi: Passengers from 15 countries, including the US, France and Spain, will also be segregated from other passengers till the conveyer belt areas at airports, according to the AAI.

Passengers from arriving from China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Iran, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hongkong, Vietnam, Nepal and Indonesia are already being segregated from other arriving passengers at the airports.

The government has been taking various steps, including universal screening of passengers, amid rising number of cases of coronavirus infection. More than a lakh people have been infected worldwide and at least 43 have tested positive in India.

 An Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson said passengers from the US, France and Spain would also be segregated.

AAI Chairman Arvind Singh along with officials from the health ministry and aviation regulator DGCA, among others, reviewed arrangements made at all international airports to control the spread of coronavirus.

Panaji: The Mormugao Port Trust in Goa has banned the entry of cruise vessels till March 31 in view of the novel coronavirus threat, a senior official said on Monday.

State health department officials said the test report of the samples of two foreigners, who were kept under observation at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for suspected exposure to the virus, were awaited and may come in by late Monday evening.

Another 19 people are under home observation in the state, an official said.

Man kept in isolation for suspected coronavirus infection in Meghalaya

Shillong: A 38-year-old man has been kept under isolation at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Sciences here for suspected COVID-19 infection, an official said on Monday.

The patient who returned from Delhi on Sunday was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of cough and fever, and he was immediately shifted to the isolation ward, state Health Commissioner and Secretary Sampath Kumar said in a statement.

The doctors at the hospital are trying to trace out his point of contact and taking precautions, he said. The sample collected from the patient is being sent to Kolkata-based lab at ICMR for corona test, he said.

The district administration appealed to the people not to panic and stay calm, and strictly follow the advisory given by the state health department.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed that 13 hospitals across the state have been asked to set up isolation wards to handle the situation in case people are infected with the coronavirus.

Italy-returned Hoshiarpur man tests corona positive in first case of Punjab: Health Secy

Chandigarh: A Hoshiarpur resident, who returned from Italy last week, has been tested positive for coronavirus afflictions, becoming the first such case in Punjab, an official said here on Monday.

"The man who returned to Amritsar by an Air India flight from Milan in Italy has tested positive for coronavirus. He had landed at Amritsar International Airport via Delhi on March 4 along with his two other family members," Punjab Principal Secretary (Health) Anurag Aggarwal said.

The patient is a resident of Hoshiarpur, he said, adding he was tracked at the Amritsar airport and got admitted to a government hospital in Amritsar.

After he was found corona positive last week after preliminary investigation, his samples were sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune, which confirmed on Monday that the man is suffering from, coronavirus afflictions.

India to use globemaster aircraft to evacuate citizens from Iran

India will send a C-17 Globemaster military aircraft to coronavirus-hit Iran on Monday night to evacuate stranded Indians from there, sources said on Monday. It will fly to Iran at around 8 p.m. from Hindon, sources said.

India is in touch with Iran on possible evacuation of Indian pilgrims and students stuck in the coronavirus-hit nation, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had said in the Parliament last Thursday. An estimated 1,200 Indians, mostly students and pilgrims, are in Iran currently.

"If the Iranian government lends its support, a testing facility could be set up there as well, so that Indians there can be tested before they can be brought back," Vardhan had said.

Delhi HC asks lawyers, litigants to avoid overcrowding court premises

New Delhi:  With India fighting hard to prevent spread of Coronavirus, the Delhi High Court has asked lawyers and litigants to avoid "unnecessary overcrowding" of the court premises.

A circular issued recently by high court registrar (general administration) Ramesh Chand said as per an advisory by the Delhi government, people should avoid going to crowded places and requested the advocates and general public to adhere to the guidelines.

"As per the recent advisory issued by the Delhi government, Coronavirus is a contagious virus which causes respiratory infection and can be transferred from human to human through air by coughing, sneezing, personal contact such as touching or shaking hand, touching an object or surface with the virus on it and then touching mouth, nose or eyes with unwashed hands," the circular said.

Govt health officials set up temporary medical camp at Fulbari Integrated Check Post in West Bengal

The health officials of the West Bengal government have set up a temporary medical camp at Fulbari Integrated Check Post (ICP), scanning those entering India from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan amid coronavirus outbreak in the country.

"The new cases include one from Delhi with travel history to Italy, one from Jammu with travel history in Iran and one from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh who was infected by six persons who were found positive in Agra. The UP patient was found through contact tracing", said Sanjeeva Kumar, Special Secretary, Union Health Ministry.

He also clarified that the patient from Murshidabad, West Bengal tested negative for COVID-19 and hence, no death has been reported due to COVID-19 in the country so far.

Delhi airport takes measures to tackle Coronavirus scare

New Delhi: Delhi Airport on Monday said that the airport is taking all necessary precautions to combat the virus.

The statement read: "The Delhi Airport is taking precautions to stay safe and keep the coronavirus away from our doorstep."

The Twitter handle of Delhi Airport also attached some photographs on the precautions being taken at the airport.

The statement added, "Now is the time to prepare for COVID-19. Simple precautions and planning can make a big difference."

Man under observation for coronavirus goes missing from Karnataka hospital

Mangaluru: A person who arrived at the airport here from Dubai and was admitted to the isolation ward of a hospital with symptoms of coronavirus has gone missing.

As COVID-19 cases surge, Kerala put on high alert

With a three-year-old child testing positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Kerala's Kochi on Monday, the authorities have put the state on high alert as they suspect a few more cases might turn positive.

The total number of positive cases have climbed to six in Kerala.

The child had travelled from Italy along with parents and arrived on March 7. On arrival at the Kochi airport after preliminary checkups was placed under observation.

State Health Minister K.K.Shailaja said on Monday that strong action will be taken against those who fail to abide by health advisories that were being issued.

A teenaged boy who had arrived here from the US has tested negative for coronavirus infection, a senior Tamil Nadu Health Department official said on Monday.

"The 15-year-old boy tested negative... now, it is for doctors treating him at the government hospital here to decide when to send him home," the official, who did not wished to be named, said.

On Sunday morning, the boy along with his parents had arrived in Chennai from US and showed high body temperature during screening. He was taken to the government hospital, where his blood samples were drawn for testing. The test results came on Monday.

First confirmed coronavirus case in J-K

Jammu: A 63-year-old woman tested positive for coronavirus here, making her the first confirmed case in Jammu and Kashmir.

The woman, who had a travel history to Iran, was among two patients who were declared "high viral load cases" by the administration on the weekend.

Holidays for kindergarten classes ordered in Bengaluru

In view of the novel coronavirus outbreak worldwide and detection of a few positive cases in neighbouring states, the Karnataka government has ordered holidays for children in lower and upper kindergarten classes in Bengaluru.

The decision was taken on the advice of Karnataka Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey.

The minister for primary and secondary school education S Suresh Kumar tweeted late Sunday night, "Further to the advice received from the health commissioner, holidays have been declared for KJG/UKG classes in Bengaluru North, South & Rural Districts."

Coronavirus: 3 quarantined in Indore, 19 test negative

Three people who returned from coronavirus-affected regions in the past nine day were on Sunday quarantined for suspected exposure in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, a senior health official said on Sunday.

Indore District Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Praveen Jadia said the three, including a 34-year-old woman, had returned from the United States and Malaysia.

The samples of 19 people kept in isolation wards for suspected exposure to the virus returned negative, while reports of two others are awaited, Additional Director, Health, Dr Vina Sinha said.

Govt plans to bring back Indians from coronavirus-hit Iran

New Delhi: The Cabinet Secretary held the 16th review meeting on coronavirus on Sunday and preparations to bring Indian citizens back from Iran were discussed.

Meanwhile, five new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed on Sunday in Kerala that took the total count in India to 39. They have a travel history to Italy, participants in the government's review meeting were told. 

A government release said that Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan is continuously monitoring and reviewing the status. He is also keeping a regular tab on actions and future preparedness of states. The Health Secretary is tasked to review the situation with states and Union Territories on a regular basis and he is holding regular talks with them. 

Since the disease has spread across more than 90 countries with over 1 lakh cases worldwide, the states and UTs have been asked to enhance community surveillance. 

Also, in view of rising cases from France, USA, and Spain, it was decided to have dedicated aerobridges for flights from these countries also in addition to the currently 12 virus-hit countries. 

Meanwhile, the government has reiterated do's and don'ts like wearing masks and more importantly how and when to use a mask.

"So far no confirmed case of novel coronavirus has been reported in the state," they said.

"In Chhattisgarh, a total of 36 samples have been sent for COVID-19 test so far, of which, 32 are found to be negative while reports of the rest four are awaited," the official said.

The samples are being tested at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Raipur. 

"Till date, a total of 27 persons, have been kept in home isolation and under surveillance while nine others have completed 28 days of observation," he said.

New Delhi: The Delhi government has ordered DTC and cluster buses, metro and hospitals to be disinfected on a regular basis as a precautionary measure to deal with the novel coronavirus, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said that three cases of coronavirus have been reported in Delhi so far and one case is still under investigation.
The chief minister said that 168 isolation beds have been set up at 25 hospitals for coronavirus patients. 

He appealed to the people in Delhi that if anybody from their neighbourhood had returned from foreign countries in the past 14 days, they should inform the government.

The chief minister, who chaired a state task force on Sunday, said the government was fully prepared to deal with the novel coronavirus, adding that people do not need to panic.

"An order has been issued to disinfect DTC, cluster buses, Delhi Metro and hospitals every day," he said.

"Three cases of coronavirus have been reported in Delhi so far. One case is still under under investigation. I want to tell this to everyone that the Delhi government is worried about it but we are fully prepared to tackle it. 

There is no need to panic and we need everyone's cooperation," he said.

New Delhi: In order to spread awareness, a special COVID-19 mobile phone caller tune was launched by all telecom operators with basic infection prevention messages played when a caller dials-out, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.

"In order to spread awareness about COVID-19, a special COVID-19 mobile phone caller tune was launched by all telecom operators. Over 117.2 crore subscribers of BSNL, MTNL Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are being progressively reached out to through SMSs and Call Backs," Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a press statement.

"As many as 52 laboratories are now operational across the country for testing the COVID-19 virus. An additional 57 laboratories have been provided with Viral Transport Media and swabs for sample collection," the statement added.

India has 39 confirmed cases of deadly coronavirus so far. The disease has caused deaths of 3200 people globally.

Kolkata: A suspected coronavirus patient, who returned from Saudi Arabia, was on Sunday admitted in a state-run Medical College in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

The youth fell sick while returning home by the train on Saturday after flying to the NSCBI Airport here earlier in the day from Saudi Arabia, where he works as a cleaner.

On Sunday, his family members took him to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Baahrampur were the doctors admitted him after a preliminary check-up.

His throat swab sample has been collected, and he has been kept at an isolation ward.

Govt plans to bring back Indians from coronavirus-hit Iran

New Delhi: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday asked people to not be afraid of the new coronavirus as the government has made adequate arrangements to contain its spread and urged them to take precautions "because prevention is better than cure".

The virus has infected 39 people across the country, including 16 Italians visiting India. The government has stepped up efforts to screen people at entry points into the country and set up facilities to quarantine suspected and confirmed cases.

Worldwide, the number of coronavirus cases stood at over 1,05,800, including 3,595 deaths.

"There is panic in the world over coronavirus but there is no need to be afraid of it. Just take precautions because prevention is better than cure," Adityanath said at a public meeting during the 'Mukhyamantri Arogya Mela' at primary health centre in Kushinagar district.

"Our government has set up an isolation ward in every district for suspected patients. There is complete arrangement for their treatment," he added.

The chief minister congratulated people on International Women's Day and felicitated 10 women for doing excellent work in different fields.

He said a society plagued by discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, religion or gender cannot progress. Adityanath said collective efforts can become the basis of empowerment.

The 'Mukhyamantri Arogya Mela' is being organised at all primary health centres of the state since February 2. Every Sunday, a team of doctors gives free consultation to patients at the health centres.
