Singer Leena Bose tests positive for COVID-19

Singer Leena Bose on Monday said she has tested positive for coronavirus.

The singer, best known for the song "Tum Se Hi" from the recently released film "Sadak 2", said following the diagnosis she is isolating at her home in Kolkata.

"I have tested positive for Covid-19. I'm resting at home and taking good care of my health," Bose said in a statement.

The singer sang the romantic track "Tum Se Hi" along with Ankit Tiwari, who also composed the song for "Sadak 2".

Over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in JK for 5th day; 17 more dead

Jammu and Kashmir recorded more than 1,000 coronavirus cases for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, pushing the caseload in the UT to 44,570, officials said.

And 17 deaths in the past 24 hours pushed the COVID-19 death toll to 801, they said.

"The UT recorded 1,013 cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. This is for the fifth time in five days the number of fresh cases has crossed 1,000 in a 24-hour period," an official said.

Of the fresh cases, 600 were from Jammu region and 413 from Kashmir valley.

Gautam Buddh Nagar records 171 new COVID-19 cases, tally 8,906

Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Monday recorded 171 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the district's infection tally to 8,906, official data showed.

The number of active cases jumped to 1,520 from 1,429 on Sunday, according to the data released by the UP Health Department for a 24-hour period.

A total of 78 patients got discharged during the period, as the total number of recoveries so far in the district reached 7,339, the data showed.

Another Odisha minister tests positive for COVID-19

Odisha minister of tourism and culture, JP Panigrahi, on Monday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing home isolation.

Panigrahi is the fourth minister in the state to have contracted the disease. Earlier, higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, rural development minister Susant Singh and textile minister Padmini Dian were diagnosed with the disease.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands COVID-19 tally rises to 3,332

The COVID-19 caseload in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,332, with 40 new coronavirus cases detected in the union territory, an official said on Monday.

Of the 40 new cases, 38 were detected during local contact tracing and two were airport arrivals, the official said.

COVID-19 positive daily wage earner dies after being denied treatment in Uttarakhand

A 38-year-old daily wage earner suffering from coronavirus died here after allegedly being denied treatment by three hospitals which refused to admit him citing unavailability of ICU beds.

Dehradun Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anoop Dimri said a report on the incident has been sought from the hospitals, adding that appropriate action will be taken after the report is received.

The hospitals in question are Government Doon Medical College, Shri Mahant Indresh Hospital and Himalayan Hospital, Jollygrant on the outskirts of the city, he said.

Uttar Pradesh IAS officer Sunil Kumar Maurya succumbed to Covid-19 on Monday. He was 53.

A 2010 batch officer, Maurya was posted as special secretary in the state government. He had been sent as a nodal COVID officer to Bareilly and Sonbhadra.

Uttarakhand Cabinet minister Madan Kaushik tests positive for COVID-19

Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik has tested positive for COVID-19, an official said on Monday.

Kaushik was admitted to AIIMS, Rishikesh on Sunday night after his antigen report came positive, its PRO Harish Thapliyal said.

Though he was in complete isolation since Saturday after coming in contact with an infected person he decided to admit himself at AIIMS, Rishikesh on the advice of doctors after his report arrived.

Undertrial prisoner dies of COVID-19 in UP's Banda

An undertrial prisoner died in the district jail here due to COVID-19, jail authorities said on Monday.

Gulbandan, 57, was found positive for the disease on September 1 and he died during treatment on Sunday, Jail Superintendent RK Singh said.

The Banda District Jail at present has 956 prisoners against its capacity of 656.

Singh said two barracks of the jail have been converted into isolation wards where COVID-19 infected prisoners are being isolated.

According to Chief Medical Officer Dr N D Sharma, 95 prisoners and jail officials in the district jail are currently infected with the virus. 

Gulbandan was jailed in a case of culpable homicide, Singh said, adding that his body was cremated as per protocols after post-mortem.  

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the district stands at 267 and deaths at 12, the chief medical officer said.

Mizoram reports 21 new cases

Twenty-one new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Mizoram, taking the state tally to 1,114, informed Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Mizoram on Monday.  

Out of the total, 732 patients have been discharged and at present, the active cases stand at 382.

No deaths have been reported so far from the infection in the state.

Bengal minister tests Covid-19 positive

West Bengal Food Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted in a private hospital in Kolkata.

According to party sources, Mallick started feeling unwell on Sunday morning. A corona test was conducted upon him in the evening, which confirmed him being positive. He was immediately shifted to the hospital from his Salt Lake residence.

Doctors said the Minister was stable but is a high diabetic. He has been kept under strict medical observation. People, who came in contact with him, have been advised to undergo corona tests. Mallick's Salt Lake residence has also been sanitised.

Earlier, two other West Bengal Ministers -- Fire Brigade Minister Sujit Bose and Textile Minister Swapan Debnath -- were also tested positive for Covid-19. Both have recovered from the infection.

Gujarat sees new high of 1,335 cases, 14 more deaths

Gujarat recorded another spike of coronavirus cases with 1,335 new cases on Sunday taking its tally to 1,04,341, while the death toll rose to 3,108 as 14 more patients succumbed.

In September so far, the state has recorded 7,906 cases, at an average of 1,317 cases daily.

Meanwhile, 1,212 patients were discharged on Sunday, taking the total of cured to 84,758, while the state has 16,475 active cases, out of which 92 critical patients are still on ventilator.

Of the new cases, Surat led with 295, followed by Ahmedabad with 173, Rajkot with 151, Vadodara with 127 and Jamnagar with 106.

Bhavnagar saw 49 cases, Gandhinagar 41, Panchmahals 31, Kutch, Mehsana, and Junagadh 29 each, Amreli and Narmada 23 each, Bharuch 22, Morbi and Surendranagar 21 each, Dahod 17, Patan 16, Gir-Somnath and Sabarkantha 15 each, Anand 14, Tapi 13, Banaskantha and Devbhumi Dwarka 12 each, Kheda and Navsari 11 each, Valsad eight, Chhota Udepur six, Mahisagar five, Aravalli four and Botad and Porbandar three each.

1,316 more test  positive in J&K

As many as 1,316 more persons tested coronavirus positive in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking its total tally to 43,557.

A statement by the Information and Public Relations Department said that of the new cases, 668 were reported from Jammu division and 648 from Kashmir division.

Fourteen more patients succumbed on Sunday -- 7 in Jammu division and 7 in Kashmir division.

In all, 403 patients were discharged from hospitals. So far, 32,327 corona patients have recovered in the Union Territory.

The active cases in J&K now total 10,446, including 4,549 in Jammu division and 5,897 in Kashmir division.

Andhra records 10,794 new cases, total nears 5 lakh

Andhra Pradesh's coronavirus cases neared the 5-lakh mark as it reported 10,794 more patients on Sunday even as 70 more fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 4,417.

The state's mortality rate stands at 0.89 per cent as against the national average of 1.72 per cent, officials said.

For the 12th consecutive day, the state recorded over 10,000 new cases, taking the tally to 4,98,125, the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.

During the last 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday, nine deaths were reported from Chittoor district, eight each from Anantapur, Guntur and Prakasam. Seven people died in Kadapa, five each in East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, and West Godavari districts, four each in Krishna, Kurnool, and Nellore, two in Srikakulam, and one in Vizianagaram.

Chittoor continues to top the districts with 473 deaths, followed by East Godavari (427), and Guntur (419).

The media bulletin released by the State Command Control Room shows COVID spread continued across the state.

Bengal's discharge rate improves to 85.19 pc

The COVID-19 discharge rate of West Bengal rose to 85.19 per cent on Sunday after 3,207 patients recovered from the disease, the health department said in a bulletin.

The discharge rate was 84.86 per cent on Saturday. So far, 1,54,008 people have been cured of coronavirus infection in the state.

The death toll rose to 3,562 with 52 more fatalities, while 3,087 fresh cases of the contagion pushed the tally to 1,80,788, the bulletin said.

The state now has 23, 218 active cases.

Altogether 21,58,690 samples were tested for COVID-19 in West Bengal till date.

Howrah and North 24 Parganas each reported 10 fresh deaths, while 32 other fatalities were registered from several other districts, the bulletin said.

Out of the 52 deaths, 45 were due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.

North 24 Parganas accounted for 590 fresh cases of infection followed by Kolkata (541) and Hooghly (290).

Meanwhile, state Food Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday and was admitted to a private hospital.

Mallick is the fourth minister in the state to be infected with the virus.

Veteran thespian Bibhas Chakraborty was also admitted to a private hospital after he was afflicted with the disease, an official said.

Assam reports 1,537 new cases, 8 more deaths

Assam reported 1,537 new COVID- 19 cases on Sunday, pushing the tally to 1,25,459, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Eight more patients died in the state, following which the death toll rose to 360, he said.

Total 1,763 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, outnumbering the new cases, which was recorded after a gap of nine days.

The state at present has 28,273 active cases, Sarma said.

Most of the new cases were reported from the Kamrup Metropolitan district where 382 people tested positive, followed by Hojai where 125 cases were detected and 108 in Dibrugarh, Sarma said.

Assam has reported total 1,25,459 cases of COVID-19 so far, and of them, 32,287 were detected in Guwahati alone.

India surpasses Brazil to become 2nd worst-hit nation by Covid-19

 India's COVID-19 tally of cases went past 42 lakh with a record 90,802 people being infected in a day, while 32,50,429 people have recuperated so far, pushing the national recovery rate to 77.30 per cent on Monday, according to the Union health ministry data.

The total number of coronavirus cases mounted to 42,04,613, while the death toll climbed to 71,642 with 1,016 fatalities being reported in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.70 per cent.

There are 8,82,542 active cases of the infection in the country which comprises 20.99 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and it went past 40 lakh on September 5.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 4,95,51,507 samples have been tested up to September 6 with 7,20,362 samples being tested on Sunday.

New Delhi: The data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has revealed that the COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate (CFR) has dropped below 2 per cent and is on a continuous decline.

The data published by the Union Ministry shows that the CFR was 2.15 per cent on August 1 and stands at 1.72 per cent on September 6.

The data further shows that the average weekly CFR was 1.97 per cent for the week of August 10 to August 16. The average weekly CFR has dropped to 1.75 per cent for the week of August 31 to September 6.

Dehradun Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anoop Dimri said a report on the incident has been sought from the hospitals, adding that appropriate action will be taken after the report is received.

The hospitals in question are Government Doon Medical College, Shri Mahant Indresh Hospital and Himalayan Hospital, Jollygrant on the outskirts of the city, he said.

UP IAS officer succumbs to Covid-19

Uttar Pradesh IAS officer Sunil Kumar Maurya succumbed to Covid-19 on Monday. He was 53.

A 2010 batch officer, Maurya was posted as special secretary in the state government. He had been sent as a nodal COVID officer to Bareilly and Sonbhadra.

Uttarakhand Cabinet minister Madan Kaushik tests positive for COVID-19

Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Madan Kaushik has tested positive for COVID-19, an official said on Monday.

Kaushik was admitted to AIIMS, Rishikesh on Sunday night after his antigen report came positive, its PRO Harish Thapliyal said.

Though he was in complete isolation since Saturday after coming in contact with an infected person he decided to admit himself at AIIMS, Rishikesh on the advice of doctors after his report arrived.

Undertrial prisoner dies of COVID-19 in UP's Banda

An undertrial prisoner died in the district jail here due to COVID-19, jail authorities said on Monday.

Gulbandan, 57, was found positive for the disease on September 1 and he died during treatment on Sunday, Jail Superintendent RK Singh said.

The Banda District Jail at present has 956 prisoners against its capacity of 656.

Singh said two barracks of the jail have been converted into isolation wards where COVID-19 infected prisoners are being isolated.

According to Chief Medical Officer Dr N D Sharma, 95 prisoners and jail officials in the district jail are currently infected with the virus. 

Gulbandan was jailed in a case of culpable homicide, Singh said, adding that his body was cremated as per protocols after post-mortem.  

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the district stands at 267 and deaths at 12, the chief medical officer said.

Mizoram reports 21 new cases

Twenty-one new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Mizoram, taking the state tally to 1,114, informed Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Mizoram on Monday.  

Out of the total, 732 patients have been discharged and at present, the active cases stand at 382.

No deaths have been reported so far from the infection in the state.

Bengal minister tests Covid-19 positive

West Bengal Food Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick tested positive for Covid-19 and has been admitted in a private hospital in Kolkata.

According to party sources, Mallick started feeling unwell on Sunday morning. A corona test was conducted upon him in the evening, which confirmed him being positive. He was immediately shifted to the hospital from his Salt Lake residence.

Doctors said the Minister was stable but is a high diabetic. He has been kept under strict medical observation. People, who came in contact with him, have been advised to undergo corona tests. Mallick's Salt Lake residence has also been sanitised.

Earlier, two other West Bengal Ministers -- Fire Brigade Minister Sujit Bose and Textile Minister Swapan Debnath -- were also tested positive for Covid-19. Both have recovered from the infection.

Gujarat sees new high of 1,335 cases, 14 more deaths

Gujarat recorded another spike of coronavirus cases with 1,335 new cases on Sunday taking its tally to 1,04,341, while the death toll rose to 3,108 as 14 more patients succumbed.

In September so far, the state has recorded 7,906 cases, at an average of 1,317 cases daily.

Meanwhile, 1,212 patients were discharged on Sunday, taking the total of cured to 84,758, while the state has 16,475 active cases, out of which 92 critical patients are still on ventilator.

Of the new cases, Surat led with 295, followed by Ahmedabad with 173, Rajkot with 151, Vadodara with 127 and Jamnagar with 106.

Bhavnagar saw 49 cases, Gandhinagar 41, Panchmahals 31, Kutch, Mehsana, and Junagadh 29 each, Amreli and Narmada 23 each, Bharuch 22, Morbi and Surendranagar 21 each, Dahod 17, Patan 16, Gir-Somnath and Sabarkantha 15 each, Anand 14, Tapi 13, Banaskantha and Devbhumi Dwarka 12 each, Kheda and Navsari 11 each, Valsad eight, Chhota Udepur six, Mahisagar five, Aravalli four and Botad and Porbandar three each.

1,316 more test  positive in J&K

As many as 1,316 more persons tested coronavirus positive in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, taking its total tally to 43,557.

A statement by the Information and Public Relations Department said that of the new cases, 668 were reported from Jammu division and 648 from Kashmir division.

Fourteen more patients succumbed on Sunday -- 7 in Jammu division and 7 in Kashmir division.

In all, 403 patients were discharged from hospitals. So far, 32,327 corona patients have recovered in the Union Territory.

The active cases in J&K now total 10,446, including 4,549 in Jammu division and 5,897 in Kashmir division.

Andhra records 10,794 new cases, total nears 5 lakh

Andhra Pradesh's coronavirus cases neared the 5-lakh mark as it reported 10,794 more patients on Sunday even as 70 more fatalities pushed the state's death toll to 4,417.

The state's mortality rate stands at 0.89 per cent as against the national average of 1.72 per cent, officials said.

For the 12th consecutive day, the state recorded over 10,000 new cases, taking the tally to 4,98,125, the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.

During the last 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday, nine deaths were reported from Chittoor district, eight each from Anantapur, Guntur and Prakasam. Seven people died in Kadapa, five each in East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, and West Godavari districts, four each in Krishna, Kurnool, and Nellore, two in Srikakulam, and one in Vizianagaram.

Chittoor continues to top the districts with 473 deaths, followed by East Godavari (427), and Guntur (419).

The media bulletin released by the State Command Control Room shows COVID spread continued across the state.

Bengal's discharge rate improves to 85.19 pc

The COVID-19 discharge rate of West Bengal rose to 85.19 per cent on Sunday after 3,207 patients recovered from the disease, the health department said in a bulletin.

The discharge rate was 84.86 per cent on Saturday. So far, 1,54,008 people have been cured of coronavirus infection in the state.

The death toll rose to 3,562 with 52 more fatalities, while 3,087 fresh cases of the contagion pushed the tally to 1,80,788, the bulletin said.

The state now has 23, 218 active cases.

Altogether 21,58,690 samples were tested for COVID-19 in West Bengal till date.

Howrah and North 24 Parganas each reported 10 fresh deaths, while 32 other fatalities were registered from several other districts, the bulletin said.

Out of the 52 deaths, 45 were due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.

North 24 Parganas accounted for 590 fresh cases of infection followed by Kolkata (541) and Hooghly (290).

Meanwhile, state Food Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday and was admitted to a private hospital.

Mallick is the fourth minister in the state to be infected with the virus.

Veteran thespian Bibhas Chakraborty was also admitted to a private hospital after he was afflicted with the disease, an official said.

Assam reports 1,537 new cases, 8 more deaths

Assam reported 1,537 new COVID- 19 cases on Sunday, pushing the tally to 1,25,459, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Eight more patients died in the state, following which the death toll rose to 360, he said.

Total 1,763 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, outnumbering the new cases, which was recorded after a gap of nine days.

The state at present has 28,273 active cases, Sarma said.

Most of the new cases were reported from the Kamrup Metropolitan district where 382 people tested positive, followed by Hojai where 125 cases were detected and 108 in Dibrugarh, Sarma said.

Assam has reported total 1,25,459 cases of COVID-19 so far, and of them, 32,287 were detected in Guwahati alone.

India surpasses Brazil to become 2nd worst-hit nation by Covid-19

 India's COVID-19 tally of cases went past 42 lakh with a record 90,802 people being infected in a day, while 32,50,429 people have recuperated so far, pushing the national recovery rate to 77.30 per cent on Monday, according to the Union health ministry data.

The total number of coronavirus cases mounted to 42,04,613, while the death toll climbed to 71,642 with 1,016 fatalities being reported in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further declined to 1.70 per cent.

There are 8,82,542 active cases of the infection in the country which comprises 20.99 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and it went past 40 lakh on September 5.

According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 4,95,51,507 samples have been tested up to September 6 with 7,20,362 samples being tested on Sunday.

New Delhi: The data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has revealed that the COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate (CFR) has dropped below 2 per cent and is on a continuous decline.

The data published by the Union Ministry shows that the CFR was 2.15 per cent on August 1 and stands at 1.72 per cent on September 6.

The data further shows that the average weekly CFR was 1.97 per cent for the week of August 10 to August 16. The average weekly CFR has dropped to 1.75 per cent for the week of August 31 to September 6.
