1,223 fresh COVID cases take Bihar's tally to 1.98 lakh

Patna: Bihar's COVID-19 tally went up to 1,98,222 after 1,223 more people tested positive for the infection on Tuesday, while six fresh fatalities took the death toll to 961, the health department said in a bulletin here.

At least 1,030 people were also cured of the contagion in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 1,86,623.

The recovery rate is now 94.15 per cent, the bulletin said.

The state currently has 10,638 active cases, it said.

Out of the six new deaths, two were reported from Patna while one each was registered in Darbhanga, Gaya, Khagaria and Madhubani districts.

COVID-19: 34 more deaths, 692 new cases in Punjab

Chandigarh: Thirty-four more deaths due to the coronavirus in Punjab pushed the death toll to 3,894 while 692 cases took the infection tally to 1,25,211 on Tuesday, according to a bulletin.

Six deaths were reported from Amritsar, four from Ludhiana, three each from Gurdaspur and Sangrur, two each from Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Mohali, Muktsar, Patiala and Rupnagar and one each from Barnala, Fazilka, Moga and SBS Nagar, as per the medical bulletin.

1,081 fresh cases, 9 more fatalities in Haryana


Chandigarh: Haryana reported 1,081 coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the caseload to 1,44,302, while nine more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,601, officials said.

Of the fresh fatalities, three were from Hisar, two from Gurugram, while one death each was from Faridabad, Rewari, Sirsa and Fatehabad, according to a government medical bulletin.

Among the districts which reported a big spike in cases were Gurugram (250) and Faridabad (168).

COVID-19 in Karnataka: 8,191 new cases in a day, over 6 lakh recoveries so far

Bengaluru: Karnataka has reported 8,191 new COVID-19 cases and 87 related fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 7,26,106 and the death toll to 10,123, the Health department said on Tuesday.

The day also saw 10,421 patients getting discharged, taking the total number of recoveries in the state to over 6 lakh mark.

Out of the 8,191 fresh cases reported on Tuesday, 3,776 cases were from Bengaluru Urban alone.

Bengal's COVID-19 tally crosses 3-lakh mark with record 3,631 new cases

Kolkata: West Bengal's COVID-19 tally crossed the 3-lakh mark on Tuesday as the state reported the highest single-day spike of 3,631 new cases, as per a bulletin issued by the Health Department.

The state also reported 62 more deaths, following which the toll rose to 5,744, it said.

West Bengal has so far reported 3,02,020 COVID-19 cases.

In the last 24 hours, 3,185 people recovered from the disease and the discharge rate was at 87.84 per cent.

Nearly 300 fresh cases, 20 deaths due to COVID-19 in U'khand


Dehradun: Uttarakhand on Tuesday reported 20 more deaths due to COVID-19, while 294 cases pushed the state's caseload to 55,641.

Dehradun reported the highest 72 cases, Udham Singh Nagar 38, Uttarkashi 35, Pauri 26, Haridwar 22, Tehri and Chamoli 21, Nainital 17, Pithoragarh 14, Almora 12, Bageshwar nine, Champawat four and Rudraprayag three, a state health department bulletin said.

Goa records 408 new COVID-19 cases, 554 recoveries

Panaji: Goa recorded 408 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, while three more patients succumbed to the infection, an official said.

Also, 554 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries to 34,252 in the coastal state, the official said.

1,158 new coronavirus cases in Guj, 10 deaths, 1,375 recover

Ahmedabad: Gujarat's count of coronavirus cases rose to 1,53,923 with an addition of 1,158 cases on Tuesday, the state health department said.

The death of ten COVID-19 patients pushed the death toll to 3,587, the department said.

But daily recoveries continued to outnumber new cases. With 1,375 patients getting discharged on Tuesday, the number of recovered cases in the state rose to 1,35,127.

With this, the state''s recovery rate improved to 87.79 per cent, the department said.

50,993 tests were conducted in the state for coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Surat continued to report the highest number of new COVID-19 cases among Gujarat districts with 248 cases on Tuesday.

Ahmedabadreported177 new cases.

TN logs 4,600 plus fresh COVID-19 cases, recoveries continue to be more

Chennai: Tamil Nadu on Tuesday reported 4,666 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 6,65,930 and 57 more fatalities pushed the toll to 10,371. With as many as 5,117 recoveries, which eclipsed the fresh infections for the second successive day, 6,12,320 people have so far been discharged following treatment, a health department bulletin said. Barring two days, Tamil Nadu has been posting more recoveries than fresh cases since Oct 4. Monday saw 4,879 new cases and 5,165 recoveries. On October 10, 11, new cases were marginally higher than the recoveries.

AP reports 5,715 recoveries, 4,622 new COVID-19 cases 

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday recorded 5,715 recoveries and 4,622 new COVID-19 cases, while 35 more people succumbed to the infection in the 24 hours ending 9 am on Tuesday. With this, the state Covid-19 table showed a gross 7,63,573 confirmed cases, 7,14,427 recoveries and 6,291 deaths so far, leaving 42,855 active cases, according to the latest bulletin.

West Godavari added 752, Chittoor 705 and East Godavari 691 new cases in 24 hours.

Kurnool, which was once the state topper in coronavirus cases, now has the lowest number of only 1,253 active cases.

It added the lowest number of 88 new cases in 24 hours.

Chittoor reported seven new Covid-19 casualties, Krishna five and Kadapa and Prakasam four each.

After 67.02 lakh sample tests till date, the overall infection positivity rate slid to 11.39 per cent, the bulletin said.

14 deaths, 2,035 fresh coronavirus cases in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Fourteen more people died from coronavirus in Rajasthan on Tuesday as 2,035 fresh cases surfaced, taking the state’s infection tally to 1,63,219.

So far, 1,679 people have died from the infection in the state, according to a health bulletin.

In Jaipur, the maximum 340 deaths have been reported till now, followed by 158 in Jodhpur; 125 in Bikaner; 121 in Ajmer; 108 in Kota; 85 in Bharatpur; 72 in Pali; 50 in Nagaur; 56 in Udaipur; 47 in Alwar; 44 in Sikar; 30 in Barmer; and 26 each in Dholpur and Rajsamand.

On Tuesday, Rajasthan recorded 2,035 new cases, including 397 in Jaipur; 218 each in Bikaner and Jodhpur; 156 each in Alwar and Ajmer; 132 in Nagaur; 105 in Udaipur; and 102 in Pali, the bulletin said.

Currently, 21,924 people are under treatment while 1,39,264 have been discharged, it added.

677 new COVID cases, 7 deaths in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 677 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the tally to 84,708, while the death toll rose to 1,340 with seven more deaths, officials said.

There are 9,866 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while 73,502 patients have recovered so far, according to the officials.

Out of the fresh 677 cases, 313 are from Jammu and 364 from the Kashmir Valley. Srinagar district reported the highest number of 145 new cases, followed by 121 in Jammu district, the officials said.

Three out of the seven more deaths were in Jammu and four in Kashmir, taking the death toll to 1,340, the officials said.

Kerala's COVID-19 count crosses three lakh mark with 8,764 fresh cases

Thiruvananthapuram:  Kerala''s COVID-19 crossed the three lakh mark on Tuesday as 8,764 fresh cases were added and the death toll mounted to 1,046 with 21 more fatalities.

The total Covid cases in the state touched 3,01,896 with the addition of the new cases,Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters. In the last 24 hours, 48,253 samples were sent for testing and 7,723 returned negative. According to the chief minister, 36,76,682 samples have been sent for testing so far.

The total recoveries have climbed to 2,07,357 while 95,407 are undergoing treatment for the infection, Vijayan said.

Four districts reported over 1000 cases-- Malappuram recorded the highest with 1,139 cases followed by Ernakulam (1,122), Kozhikode (1,113) and Thrissur (1,010).

The death toll mounted to 1,046 with 21 more deaths being added to the tally.

Of the positive cases, 8,039 were infected through contact, 36 had come from abroad and 85 from other states.

Seventy-six health workers were among those who tested positive today, Vijayan said.

As many as 2,82,000 people are under observation in various districts-- 2,54,841 in home and institutional quarantine while 27,159 are in hospitals.

While 11 new areas were added in the hotspots list, 15 areas were removed from it,Vijayan added.

Delhi records 45 more COVID-19 deaths taking toll to 5,854; infection tally over 3.14 lakh

New Delhi: The national capital recorded 45 COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday, taking the death toll due to the disease to 5,854, while 3,036 fresh cases took the infection tally to over 3.14 lakh, authorities said.  

The number of daily cases recorded from October 2-12 stood below the 3,000-mark every day.

On October 10 and September 29 as well, 48 fatalities were reported in the city, the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since July 16 when Delhi saw 58 fatalities.

The 3,036 fresh cases on Tuesday were detected after 54,957 tests were conducted the previous day.

Forty-five more fatalities have been recorded, taking the coronavirus death toll to 5,854, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

The tally of active cases on Tuesday rose to 21,490 from 20,535 the previous day.  

The total number of cases has climbed to 3,14,224, the bulletin added.

47 per cent of COVID-19 deaths registered among those aged below 60 years: Health Ministry

About 47% of Covid-19 deaths have been recorded among those aged below 60 years, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press briefing, Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said about 70 per cent Covid-19 deaths have been of male patients while 30 per cent of fatalities from the infection has been reported in females.

“About 53 per cent Covid-19 deaths registered among those aged 60 and above, 35 per cent in 45-60 years, 10 per cent in 26-44 years and 1 per cent each in the age-group 18-25 years and below 17 years,” Bhushan said.

Providing data on case fatality rate among different age groups – with and without comorbidities, he said in the age group of 60 years and above, 24.6 per cent of deaths were of people with comorbidities while 4.8 per cent were of those without comorbidities.

In the age group of 45-60 years, 13.9 per cent of deaths were of patients with comorbidities while 1.5 per cent were of those without comorbidities, he said.

In the age group of less than 45 years, people with comorbidities constituted 8.8 per cent of deaths while 0.2 per cent didn’t have any comorbidities, he said.

UP's COVID situation shows signs of improvement; Active cases come down

Lucknow: There has been a downward trend in COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh for the last 26 days, with the number of active cases less than those discharged from hospital, a senior official said here on Tuesday.

According to Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health Amit Mohan Prasad, the number of active cases in the state is 38,082.

The number of those treated and discharged is 3,97,570, while 6,466 people have died due to the disease.

So far, 1,21,92,619 tests have been done in the state.

"In the past 24 hours, the state had 3,033 fresh cases while in the same period 3,662 people were discharged," he told reporters here.

On Monday, 1,51,367 samples were tested in UP, Prasad said.

UP Excise Minister Ram Naresh Agnihotri tests positive for COVID-19

Mainpuri: Uttar Pradesh Excise Minister Ram Naresh Agnihotri has tested positive for COVID-19.

Agnihotri said he has been undergoing treatment at Max Hospital in Delhi after his diagnosis.

Agnihotri tested positive for the novel coronavirus on October 6. On the same day, he was admitted to Max Hospital in Delhi.

A second test was conducted on him on Tuesday and the result came positive as well.

The minister exuded confidence that he would defeat COVID-19 and return to work.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. He will be in-home quarantine for the next two weeks as he is asymptomatic, sources at the DC's office said.

The Deputy Commissioner's wife and child also have tested positive and are in-home quarantine. As a precautionary measure, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Commissioner Akshay Sridhar, has also gone into quarantine after the DC tested positive for the virus.

217 fresh COVID-19 cases, one more fatality in Tripura

Tripura's COVID-19 tally mounted to 28,678 on Tuesday as 217 more people tested positive for the disease, a health department official said.

"The death toll rose to 314 after a person succumbed to the infection," he said.

"West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, has accounted for 170 of the 314 COVID-19 fatalities," the official said.

"On Monday, 220 people were discharged from G B Pant Hospital, the main referral facility in the state for COVID-19 patients, taking the total number of recoveries to 24,600," he said.

Tripura currently has 3,741 active coronavirus cases, while 23 patients have migrated to other states. 

"The northeastern state has conducted 41,898 sample tests for COVID-19 so far," he added.

55,342 new cases recorded as India shows declining trend of daily spike

New Delhi: India's tally on Tuesday mounted to 71,75,880 cases with a spike of 55,342 coronavirus cases, the lowest since August.

India recorded around 55,000 cases on July 31 (55,078), August 4 (52,050) and August 18 (55,079).

India is showing a trend of declining average daily cases over the past five weeks. After a month, on October 9, active cases fell below the 9 lakh mark and have steadily followed a downward slope since the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said.

Out of the total cases so far, 8,38,729 are currently active, 62,27,295 have been discharged, while 1,09,856 lost the battle against the pandemic.

While the recovery rate stands at 86.78 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.53 per cent, the data from the Ministry data showed.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 15,35,315 cases including 40,514 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India conducted 10,73,014 sample tests in a single day on Monday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 8,89,45,107.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 677 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the tally to 84,708, while the death toll rose to 1,340 with seven more deaths, officials said.

There are 9,866 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while 73,502 patients have recovered so far, according to the officials.

Out of the fresh 677 cases, 313 are from Jammu and 364 from the Kashmir Valley. Srinagar district reported the highest number of 145 new cases, followed by 121 in Jammu district, the officials said.

Three out of the seven more deaths were in Jammu and four in Kashmir, taking the death toll to 1,340, the officials said.

Kerala's COVID-19 count crosses three lakh mark with 8,764 fresh cases

Thiruvananthapuram:  Kerala''s COVID-19 crossed the three lakh mark on Tuesday as 8,764 fresh cases were added and the death toll mounted to 1,046 with 21 more fatalities.

The total Covid cases in the state touched 3,01,896 with the addition of the new cases,Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters. In the last 24 hours, 48,253 samples were sent for testing and 7,723 returned negative. According to the chief minister, 36,76,682 samples have been sent for testing so far.

The total recoveries have climbed to 2,07,357 while 95,407 are undergoing treatment for the infection, Vijayan said.

Four districts reported over 1000 cases-- Malappuram recorded the highest with 1,139 cases followed by Ernakulam (1,122), Kozhikode (1,113) and Thrissur (1,010).

The death toll mounted to 1,046 with 21 more deaths being added to the tally.

Of the positive cases, 8,039 were infected through contact, 36 had come from abroad and 85 from other states.

Seventy-six health workers were among those who tested positive today, Vijayan said.

As many as 2,82,000 people are under observation in various districts-- 2,54,841 in home and institutional quarantine while 27,159 are in hospitals.

While 11 new areas were added in the hotspots list, 15 areas were removed from it,Vijayan added.

Delhi records 45 more COVID-19 deaths taking toll to 5,854; infection tally over 3.14 lakh

New Delhi: The national capital recorded 45 COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday, taking the death toll due to the disease to 5,854, while 3,036 fresh cases took the infection tally to over 3.14 lakh, authorities said.  

The number of daily cases recorded from October 2-12 stood below the 3,000-mark every day.

On October 10 and September 29 as well, 48 fatalities were reported in the city, the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since July 16 when Delhi saw 58 fatalities.

The 3,036 fresh cases on Tuesday were detected after 54,957 tests were conducted the previous day.

Forty-five more fatalities have been recorded, taking the coronavirus death toll to 5,854, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

The tally of active cases on Tuesday rose to 21,490 from 20,535 the previous day.  

The total number of cases has climbed to 3,14,224, the bulletin added.

47 per cent of COVID-19 deaths registered among those aged below 60 years: Health Ministry

About 47% of Covid-19 deaths have been recorded among those aged below 60 years, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press briefing, Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said about 70 per cent Covid-19 deaths have been of male patients while 30 per cent of fatalities from the infection has been reported in females.

“About 53 per cent Covid-19 deaths registered among those aged 60 and above, 35 per cent in 45-60 years, 10 per cent in 26-44 years and 1 per cent each in the age-group 18-25 years and below 17 years,” Bhushan said.

Providing data on case fatality rate among different age groups – with and without comorbidities, he said in the age group of 60 years and above, 24.6 per cent of deaths were of people with comorbidities while 4.8 per cent were of those without comorbidities.

In the age group of 45-60 years, 13.9 per cent of deaths were of patients with comorbidities while 1.5 per cent were of those without comorbidities, he said.

In the age group of less than 45 years, people with comorbidities constituted 8.8 per cent of deaths while 0.2 per cent didn’t have any comorbidities, he said.

UP's COVID situation shows signs of improvement; Active cases come down

Lucknow: There has been a downward trend in COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh for the last 26 days, with the number of active cases less than those discharged from hospital, a senior official said here on Tuesday.

According to Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health Amit Mohan Prasad, the number of active cases in the state is 38,082.

The number of those treated and discharged is 3,97,570, while 6,466 people have died due to the disease.

So far, 1,21,92,619 tests have been done in the state.

"In the past 24 hours, the state had 3,033 fresh cases while in the same period 3,662 people were discharged," he told reporters here.

On Monday, 1,51,367 samples were tested in UP, Prasad said.

UP Excise Minister Ram Naresh Agnihotri tests positive for COVID-19

Mainpuri: Uttar Pradesh Excise Minister Ram Naresh Agnihotri has tested positive for COVID-19.

Agnihotri said he has been undergoing treatment at Max Hospital in Delhi after his diagnosis.

Agnihotri tested positive for the novel coronavirus on October 6. On the same day, he was admitted to Max Hospital in Delhi.

A second test was conducted on him on Tuesday and the result came positive as well.

The minister exuded confidence that he would defeat COVID-19 and return to work.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Tests Positive for Coronavirus

Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner K V Rajendra tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. He will be in-home quarantine for the next two weeks as he is asymptomatic, sources at the DC's office said.

The Deputy Commissioner's wife and child also have tested positive and are in-home quarantine. As a precautionary measure, Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Commissioner Akshay Sridhar, has also gone into quarantine after the DC tested positive for the virus.

217 fresh COVID-19 cases, one more fatality in Tripura

Tripura's COVID-19 tally mounted to 28,678 on Tuesday as 217 more people tested positive for the disease, a health department official said.

"The death toll rose to 314 after a person succumbed to the infection," he said.

"West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, has accounted for 170 of the 314 COVID-19 fatalities," the official said.

"On Monday, 220 people were discharged from G B Pant Hospital, the main referral facility in the state for COVID-19 patients, taking the total number of recoveries to 24,600," he said.

Tripura currently has 3,741 active coronavirus cases, while 23 patients have migrated to other states. 

"The northeastern state has conducted 41,898 sample tests for COVID-19 so far," he added.

55,342 new cases recorded as India shows declining trend of daily spike

New Delhi: India's tally on Tuesday mounted to 71,75,880 cases with a spike of 55,342 coronavirus cases, the lowest since August.

India recorded around 55,000 cases on July 31 (55,078), August 4 (52,050) and August 18 (55,079).

India is showing a trend of declining average daily cases over the past five weeks. After a month, on October 9, active cases fell below the 9 lakh mark and have steadily followed a downward slope since the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said.

Out of the total cases so far, 8,38,729 are currently active, 62,27,295 have been discharged, while 1,09,856 lost the battle against the pandemic.

While the recovery rate stands at 86.78 per cent, the fatality rate is 1.53 per cent, the data from the Ministry data showed.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit with a total of 15,35,315 cases including 40,514 deaths; followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India conducted 10,73,014 sample tests in a single day on Monday, taking the total number of samples tested so far to 8,89,45,107.
