India's COVID-19 count reaches 18,895, recovery rate stands at 17.48 pc
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India reached 18,895 on Tuesday, with Maharashtra being the worst-hit state, even as the government said the recovery percentage for the infection stood at 17.48 per cent.
Out of the total number of cases, 15,122 are active cases, while 3,260 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated. The total deaths due to the infection stood at 603.
Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases across the country, with the count at 4,669, while Delhi (2,081) and Gujarat (2,066) are the two next-most affected states.
Fresh cases were reported today from Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal and Punjab among other states and UTs. Maharashtra has reported 232 deaths, the highest fatality rate than any other state.
At a regular media briefing on COVID-19 situation in India, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry, said a total of 3,252 people have been cured of coronavirus in the country so far, including 705 patients who were discharged on Monday, taking the recovery percentage to 17.48 per cent.
Agarwal also said that the ministry has issued detailed guidelines to all the states that while focusing on COVID-19, all other services need to be provided.
"We have issued detailed guidelines to all states that while we focus on COVID-19, all other services need to be provided, be it for dialysis or HIV/cancer treatments. At the same time, required infection management prevention should be in place," he said.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has written to all the states and directed them to ensure adequate availability of blood in blood banks.

1. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday advised the states to stop using COVID-19 rapid testing kits for the time being owing to big variations in their results and added that it would issue an advisory in this regard in the next two days.
2. The government said that a portal - covidwarriors.gov.in - has been created as a master database of healthcare professionals and volunteers and a total of 1.24 crore corona warriors are now available in the country.
3. The Centre informed that a total of 15,000 AYUSH professionals have been deployed in 17 states and UTs in management of COVID-19. It also said that more than one lakh AYUSH professionals and 55,000 AYUSH students have been trained and ready for deployment.
4. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh suggested the Centre a three-pronged strategy to bail out states from COVID-19 crisis, including a three-month special financial package and extension to 15th Finance Commission till October 2021 for submission of its final report.
5. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has decided to take certain measures to further facilitate fundraising by corporates through capital markets in keeping with its ongoing efforts to ease processes in light of COVID-19.
6. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that 30 lakh more people who do not have ration cards will be given ration. He also said that nearly one crore people in the national capital are being given free ration.
7. Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that the country has surplus grains stock of 539 lakh tonnes and assured of no shortage of foodgrains in the future.
8. Harsh Vardhan said there have been reports that convalescent plasma can play a crucial role in the recovery of COVID-19 patients. He said that Red Cross volunteers have been requested to approach people, who have recovered from COVID-19, and motivate them to donate blood.
9. The Maharashtra government has revoked lockdown relaxations and exemptions for Mumbai and Pune regions as 'people are not behaving responsibly'. The remaining parts of the state will continue to have partial exemptions.
10. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the lockdown situation in the state and directed senior officials to conduct more COVID-19 testing.

COVID-19 patients recovery rate 17.48%, 1.24 cr out on prevention
The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said the country's recovery rate of coronavirus patients is 17.48 percent and 3,252 patients have been cured so far.
Meanwhile, as many as 1.24 crore coronavirus warriors and volunteers have been engaged in containment zones and in the field in various preventive measures, the ministry said.
At the daily press briefing, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health, said: "Till now, there are 18,601 positive cases in the country. So far, 3,252 people have been cured, and in the previous day, 705 people have recovered. This takes our recovery percentage to 17.48 per cent."
According to the health ministry, 590 people have succumbed to the infection, while the total active cases in the country are 14,759.
Observing the recovery trend shows that on April 15, 183 recovered, 260 patients recovered on April 16, 243 on April 17, 239 recovered on April 18, 316 patients recovered on April 19 and on April 20, 705 patients recovered, which is a single-day record.
According to the chairman of the empowered group, details of corona warriors in 20 categories and 49 sub-categories, for COVID-19 management, is available to states and Union Territories on a designated portal. An Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) official added that 4,49,810 tests for COVID-19 conducted so far in India, and 35,852 samples were tested on Monday.

The number of coronavirus cases in Rae Bareli district jumped from two to 35 with several people testing positive after coming in contact with participants at a Tablighi Jamaat congregation, officials said on Tuesday.

Sub-inspector tests positive in Uttar Pradesh; first affected police official in the state

COVID-19 cases mount to 18,601 in India, 590 deaths
With 1,336 new cases in last 24 hours, the total tally of COVID-19 cases stood at 18,601 on Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Health and Family welfare said.
The health ministry in the morning update said that of the total cases, 14,759 are active cases, with 590 casualties.
"At least 3,252 people have been cured and discharged from the hospital while one person has migrated," said the Ministry, adding that there are at least 77 foreign nationals, affected with the disease.
Maharashtra continued to be the worst hit with 4,666 total cases, followed by Delhi with 2,081 cases and 47 fatalities. Rajasthan has witnessed 1,576 cases and 25 deaths while Tamil Nadu has seen 1,520 cases and 17 deaths so far.

'Drive-Thru Collection' of samples begins in Maharashtra
Suburban Diagnostics has started an initiative called 'COVID-19 Drive-Thru Collection Point' on Western Express Highway in Goregaon to collect samples of people. Mohammed Rizwan, technician says, "This is a drive-through process wherein we collect samples."
Mohammed Rizwan, technician of Suburban Diagnostics said, "People take appointment online. They come here in their car & we take samples while the patient is sitting in the car. Their reports are later sent online within 48 hours. We charge Rs 4,500 for each test."

After one positive case of coronavirus was found in Rashtrapati Bhavan, 125 families have been advised to remain in self-isolation as per the Union Health Ministry's guidelines, according to sources.

Five more COVID-19 cases have been reported in Odisha, taking the tally of coronavirus cases in the state to 79, informed state Health Department on Tuesday.
Out of the total COVID-19 cases in the state, 53 are active cases and 25 people have been cured/discharged.
So far, one person has lost his life to the infection in the state.

K'taka: 80-yr-old dies from COVID-19; death toll rises to 17
An 80-year-old COVID-19 patient has died in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, taking the death toll in the state to 17, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.
The elderly person was suffering from Parkinson's disease for the last three years and died at a hospital on Monday, the minister said in a tweet.
"The person had developed fever on Sunday and was admitted to the hospital. The patient passed away yesterday at 9am. Last night at 9pm the death report came, which confirmed that the person was COVID-19 positive," Sudhakar tweeted.
The total number of COVID-19 infections in the state has crossed the 400-mark, according to last evening's bulletin by the Karnataka health department.

Over 25,000 COVID-19 related grievances addressed through Portal: Centre
New Delhi: Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh on Monday informed that over 25,000 COVID-19 related grievances have been redressed through portal in the last 20 days.
"Following the declaration of nationwide lockdown in the wake of corona pandemic, the grievance portal has received tremendous response from people from across the country in the last three weeks as a result of which, while on April 1, 332 COVID related grievances were registered by the public, within 15 days by April 16 the number increased to 5,566," said Singh in a statement.
He complimented the Department of Public Grievances and the handlers of National Monitoring Dashboard for their prompt and round-the-clock follow up, which had made it possible to limit the average disposal time of a grievance to 1.57 days.
It is pertinent to mention that on the National Monitoring Dashboard in the grievance portal, an exclusive window was introduced for COVID-19 related grievances.
Meanwhile, about 14,982 of COVID related grievances have been sent to different state governments while other grievances were sent to different Central Ministries for redressal.
Specific focus is being given to grievance cases related to migrant labourers, health infrastructure and quarantine, food and civil supply-related issues, banking and financial sector issues, salary and, employee issues and school and higher education-related issues, he said.

India's COVID-19 count reaches 18,895, recovery rate stands at 17.48 pc
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India reached 18,895 on Tuesday, with Maharashtra being the worst-hit state, even as the government said the recovery percentage for the infection stood at 17.48 per cent.
Out of the total number of cases, 15,122 are active cases, while 3,260 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated. The total deaths due to the infection stood at 603.
Maharashtra has reported the highest number of cases across the country, with the count at 4,669, while Delhi (2,081) and Gujarat (2,066) are the two next-most affected states.
Fresh cases were reported today from Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal and Punjab among other states and UTs. Maharashtra has reported 232 deaths, the highest fatality rate than any other state.
At a regular media briefing on COVID-19 situation in India, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry, said a total of 3,252 people have been cured of coronavirus in the country so far, including 705 patients who were discharged on Monday, taking the recovery percentage to 17.48 per cent.
Agarwal also said that the ministry has issued detailed guidelines to all the states that while focusing on COVID-19, all other services need to be provided.
"We have issued detailed guidelines to all states that while we focus on COVID-19, all other services need to be provided, be it for dialysis or HIV/cancer treatments. At the same time, required infection management prevention should be in place," he said.
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has written to all the states and directed them to ensure adequate availability of blood in blood banks.

1. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday advised the states to stop using COVID-19 rapid testing kits for the time being owing to big variations in their results and added that it would issue an advisory in this regard in the next two days.
2. The government said that a portal - covidwarriors.gov.in - has been created as a master database of healthcare professionals and volunteers and a total of 1.24 crore corona warriors are now available in the country.
3. The Centre informed that a total of 15,000 AYUSH professionals have been deployed in 17 states and UTs in management of COVID-19. It also said that more than one lakh AYUSH professionals and 55,000 AYUSH students have been trained and ready for deployment.
4. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh suggested the Centre a three-pronged strategy to bail out states from COVID-19 crisis, including a three-month special financial package and extension to 15th Finance Commission till October 2021 for submission of its final report.
5. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has decided to take certain measures to further facilitate fundraising by corporates through capital markets in keeping with its ongoing efforts to ease processes in light of COVID-19.
6. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that 30 lakh more people who do not have ration cards will be given ration. He also said that nearly one crore people in the national capital are being given free ration.
7. Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said that the country has surplus grains stock of 539 lakh tonnes and assured of no shortage of foodgrains in the future.
8. Harsh Vardhan said there have been reports that convalescent plasma can play a crucial role in the recovery of COVID-19 patients. He said that Red Cross volunteers have been requested to approach people, who have recovered from COVID-19, and motivate them to donate blood.
9. The Maharashtra government has revoked lockdown relaxations and exemptions for Mumbai and Pune regions as 'people are not behaving responsibly'. The remaining parts of the state will continue to have partial exemptions.
10. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the lockdown situation in the state and directed senior officials to conduct more COVID-19 testing.

The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday said the country's recovery rate of coronavirus patients is 17.48 percent and 3,252 patients have been cured so far.
Meanwhile, as many as 1.24 crore coronavirus warriors and volunteers have been engaged in containment zones and in the field in various preventive measures, the ministry said.
At the daily press briefing, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Health, said: "Till now, there are 18,601 positive cases in the country. So far, 3,252 people have been cured, and in the previous day, 705 people have recovered. This takes our recovery percentage to 17.48 per cent."
According to the health ministry, 590 people have succumbed to the infection, while the total active cases in the country are 14,759.
Observing the recovery trend shows that on April 15, 183 recovered, 260 patients recovered on April 16, 243 on April 17, 239 recovered on April 18, 316 patients recovered on April 19 and on April 20, 705 patients recovered, which is a single-day record.
According to the chairman of the empowered group, details of corona warriors in 20 categories and 49 sub-categories, for COVID-19 management, is available to states and Union Territories on a designated portal. An Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) official added that 4,49,810 tests for COVID-19 conducted so far in India, and 35,852 samples were tested on Monday.

COVID-19 cases mount to 18,601 in India, 590 deaths
With 1,336 new cases in last 24 hours, the total tally of COVID-19 cases stood at 18,601 on Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Health and Family welfare said.
The health ministry in the morning update said that of the total cases, 14,759 are active cases, with 590 casualties.
"At least 3,252 people have been cured and discharged from the hospital while one person has migrated," said the Ministry, adding that there are at least 77 foreign nationals, affected with the disease.
Maharashtra continued to be the worst hit with 4,666 total cases, followed by Delhi with 2,081 cases and 47 fatalities. Rajasthan has witnessed 1,576 cases and 25 deaths while Tamil Nadu has seen 1,520 cases and 17 deaths so far.

'Drive-Thru Collection' of samples begins in Maharashtra
Suburban Diagnostics has started an initiative called 'COVID-19 Drive-Thru Collection Point' on Western Express Highway in Goregaon to collect samples of people. Mohammed Rizwan, technician says, "This is a drive-through process wherein we collect samples."
Mohammed Rizwan, technician of Suburban Diagnostics said, "People take appointment online. They come here in their car & we take samples while the patient is sitting in the car. Their reports are later sent online within 48 hours. We charge Rs 4,500 for each test."

One COVID-19 positive case found in Rashtrapati Bhavan,125 familes put in self-isolation
After one positive case of coronavirus was found in Rashtrapati Bhavan, 125 families have been advised to remain in self-isolation as per the Union Health Ministry's guidelines, according to sources.
Till now, over 2000 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Delhi.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in India is 17,656, of which 14,255 are active cases and 2,842 have recovered/migrated. As many as 559 deaths have been reported so far.

5 more COVID-19 cases in Odisha, state tally reaches 79
Five more COVID-19 cases have been reported in Odisha, taking the tally of coronavirus cases in the state to 79, informed state Health Department on Tuesday.
Out of the total COVID-19 cases in the state, 53 are active cases and 25 people have been cured/discharged.
So far, one person has lost his life to the infection in the state.

K'taka: 80-yr-old dies from COVID-19; death toll rises to 17
An 80-year-old COVID-19 patient has died in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district, taking the death toll in the state to 17, Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar said on Tuesday.
The elderly person was suffering from Parkinson's disease for the last three years and died at a hospital on Monday, the minister said in a tweet.
"The person had developed fever on Sunday and was admitted to the hospital. The patient passed away yesterday at 9am. Last night at 9pm the death report came, which confirmed that the person was COVID-19 positive," Sudhakar tweeted.
The total number of COVID-19 infections in the state has crossed the 400-mark, according to last evening's bulletin by the Karnataka health department.

Over 25,000 COVID-19 related grievances addressed through Portal: Centre
New Delhi: Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh on Monday informed that over 25,000 COVID-19 related grievances have been redressed through portal in the last 20 days.
"Following the declaration of nationwide lockdown in the wake of corona pandemic, the grievance portal has received tremendous response from people from across the country in the last three weeks as a result of which, while on April 1, 332 COVID related grievances were registered by the public, within 15 days by April 16 the number increased to 5,566," said Singh in a statement.
He complimented the Department of Public Grievances and the handlers of National Monitoring Dashboard for their prompt and round-the-clock follow up, which had made it possible to limit the average disposal time of a grievance to 1.57 days.
It is pertinent to mention that on the National Monitoring Dashboard in the grievance portal, an exclusive window was introduced for COVID-19 related grievances.
Meanwhile, about 14,982 of COVID related grievances have been sent to different state governments while other grievances were sent to different Central Ministries for redressal.
Specific focus is being given to grievance cases related to migrant labourers, health infrastructure and quarantine, food and civil supply-related issues, banking and financial sector issues, salary and, employee issues and school and higher education-related issues, he said.
