Hyderabad: As each passing day, the Corona epidemic is increasing rapidly. To control the spread of COVID-19, it is necessary to look after the health workers along with the patients.
Healthcare personnel are giving care to the patients while risking their lives and constantly fighting with an unseen enemy, far away from their families.
The three young students, Ashfaq, Abdul Bari and Salman hailing from Hyderabad came to the rescue of these health workers. They came up with an innovative thought of utilizing humanoids in isolation wards where the COVID-19 patients are placed for further treatment.
They have brought forward a proposal to the notice of the Minister for State, KT Rama Rao (KTR). These engineering graduates have developed a ‘Walking Robot’ as part of their annual project.
This Robot was introduced to the Minister, after updating its technology to suit the current requirement at the hospitals.
Responding to this, the Minister ordered IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan to examine the proposal put forth by the students.
With this backdrop, the three enthusiastic students have shared their thoughts with ‘Eenadu’.
Origin of the thought
The three youngsters, after getting to know that many doctors and health care personnel are getting infected with the coronavirus, have started revamping their ideas on the building of such robots, which was earlier a part of their annual project.
A lot of Robot-Run restaurants have already been launched in all metro cities in the country. After getting to know about these, the idea of further enhancing their technology and using them in the hospitals has emanated amongst these three friends.
The trio completed their Bachelor of Engineering, last year, from a private engineering college in the city.
During their graduation, they thought an idea of building a ‘Walking Robot’ as part of their engineering project. The robots used for service in restaurants of the city are worth lakhs of rupees and are imported from other countries.
To reduce this cost, the students have come up with an innovative idea that can be cost-effective. They used a 6-inch thermocol and came up with a design model.
Once this gets the nod of the Government, they plan to build cost-effective and suitable models within 8 days, with the support of the government.
What are the specialities of this Robot?
This robot can provide unmanned medical services to victims of corona isolation wards. A tray set up for the robot can carry medicines, food and other needs. It can also be used for sanitizing the ward from time to time.
- This robot operates via WiFi and Bluetooth and can be controlled through a mobile. The Robot continues to move around in the ward and monitors the patients. Surveillance cameras installed into the Robot can help the doctors and hospital staff to check on the patients from the monitors in their respective rooms itself.
- For those who are feeling lonely in isolation wards, it is possible to talk to the Robot and request for songs, news and others with the help of the Audible devices proposed to be included in the new design of the robot.
