708 new COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, 11 fresh deaths reported

The novel coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir crossed the 30,000 marks on Wednesday with 708 new infections, while 11 more deaths took the toll to 572, officials said.

There are 6,965 active cases of the coronavirus disease and 22,497 patients have recovered so far, according to the officials.

Kerala's COVID-19 tally crosses 50,000 mark; death toll climbs to 182

Kerala's COVID-19 tally crossed the grim milestone of 50,000 cases on Wednesday, with the state recording the highest daily surge of 2,333
infections, while seven more fatalities took the toll to 182.

The tally now stands at 50,231.

Seventeen health workers are among those infected.

As many as 17,382 people are presently undergoing treatment in various hospitals, while 32,611 have recovered, including 1,217 who have been discharged.

1,398 fresh COVID-19 cases take Delhi tally to 1,56,139; death toll climbs to 4,235

Delhi recorded 1,398 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday, taking the tally in the city to over 1.56 lakh, while the death toll from the disease mounted to 4,235, authorities said.

Nine fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Delhi health department.

Sikkim reports its third fatality due to COVID-19

Sikkim on Wednesday reported the third fatality due to Covid-19 when a 57-year-old man succumbed to the disease at STNM hospital here.

Director General (DG)-cum-secretary in the department of health, Pempa T Bhutia said that he tested positive in RT-PCR test and died on Wednesday.

The cremation will take place on Wednesday as per the COVID-19 protocol.

The second fatality in the state was reported on Tuesday.

COVID-19 tally touches 3.16 lakh with 9,742 fresh cases in Andhra Pradesh

Maintaining the steep ascent, Andhra Pradesh's COVID-19 tally touched 3.16 lakh on Wednesday as 9,742 more cases were added in the last 24 hours.

The coronavirus toll mounted to 2,906 as of 86 fresh casualties were reported.

The latest bulletin said 8,061 COVID-19 victims got cured and discharged from hospitals across the state in the last 24 hours.

Jodhpur military hospital commissions molecular biology lab for COVID tests

The Jodhpur military hospital has commissioned an ICMR-approved molecular biology laboratory to conduct both Rapid Antigen test and confirmatory RT-PCR test for diagnosis of COVID-19 disease.

Jodhpur Military Hospital has achieved the distinction of becoming the first zonal military hospital to have a molecular biological laboratory approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Total COVID-19 deaths reach 2,638 in Uttar Pradesh, active cases reducing since Aug 16

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 reached 2,638 in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday with the state's case fatality rate (CFR) coming down to 1.57 per cent, a senior official said. A total of 2,638 people have died in the state due to coronavirus infection.  

As many as 1,15,227 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals while the number of active cases was 49,645.

With this, the total cases of coronavirus infection in the state have gone up to 1,67,510.

Rajasthan Governor voices concern over rising COVID-19 cases in state

Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra on Wednesday voiced concern over the growing COVID-19 cases in the state and asked Health Minister Raghu Sharma to chalk out a new strategy to contain the spread of the disease.

Noting that 1,347 people had tested positive in the state, while 11 people died due to the disease on Tuesday, Mishra said it was a matter of great concern. 

The governor had on August 15 asked Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to give more stress on efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the statement said.

Veteran BJP leader Guruswamy dies

Former MLA of Chamarajanagar Assembly constituency and veteran BJP leader C Guruswamy, undergoing treatment for coronavirus died of a heart attack at a hospital in Mysuru on Wednesday, Health Department said.

Guruswamy (68) was admitted to the private hospital on August 5 after testing positive for COVID-19, the officials of the department said.

Tamil Nadu Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday has been admitted at a private hospital in Chennai, for treatment. 

Along with Vijayabhaskar, wife and daughter have also tested positive for the infection. So far, at least six MLAs of the party have tested positive for COVID-19.

Several DMK MLAs including the J Anbazhagan, who died in June, had also tested positive for the infection.

Union minister Balyan goes into self-quarantine after meeting coronavirus-infected UP minister

Union minister Sanjeev Balyan has gone into self-quarantine after he came in contact with Uttar Pradesh minister Atul Garg who tested positive for COVID-19, his aide said on Wednesday.

According to the aide of Balyan, the Union Minister of State for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries went into self-quarantine in Delhi after he came to know about Garg's infection on Tuesday.

COVID-19: 10 fresh fatalities reported in Rajasthan

Rajasthan recorded 10 more fatalities due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the state's death toll to 908, while 699 fresh cases pushed its tally to 64,676, a health department official said.

Of the latest fatalities, three each were reported from Jaipur, two from Nagaur and one each from Ajmer, Bikaner, Ganganagar, Kota and Udaipur, the official said.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Aurangabad rose to 19,258 on Wednesday after 106 more people tested positive for the disease here in Maharashtra, the district administration said.

Among the new cases, 42 were reported from Aurangabad city and 64 from rural parts of the district.

With 64K new cases, India's Covid-19 tally mounts to 27.6L

With 64,531 fresh coronavirus infections in 24 hours, India tally mounted to 27,67,273 on Wednesday, while the death toll climbed to 52,889 with 1,092 more fatalities, said the Health Ministry.

Out of the total cases, recoveries have crossed the 20-lakh mark and surged to 20,37,870 with 60,091 more people recuperating in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to nearly 73.18 per cent. The actual caseload of the country is the active cases, which currently stands at 6,76,514.

The country had touched the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and added more than seven lakh cases in 12 days. The silver lining, however, is that the gap between recoveries and active cases is growing every day. Currently, recoveries are over 14 lakh more than the active cases.

As far as the death toll is concerned, the country had registered its first death on March 13 and crossed the 25,000-mark on July 17 and added the next 27,000 deaths in the span of a month.

Telangana reports 1,763 new cases, 8 more deaths

Telangana continued to witness an upward trend of coronavirus cases with 1,763 fresh additions, pushing the state's tally of positive cases to 95,700. 

With eight more fatalities the toll rose to 719, a state government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on August 18.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the COVID-19 hotspot in the state, witnessed 484 infections, cases being reported.

Bengal reports record 3,175 new COVID-19 cases, 55 more deaths

West Bengal on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day spike of 3,175 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 1,22,753, as per an official bulletin.

The state reported 55 more deaths, following which the toll rose to 2,528, it said.

Total 2,987 people recovered from the disease over the last 24 hours, improving the discharge rate to 75.51 per cent.

There are 27,535 active cases in the state at present, the bulletin issued by the Health Department said.

Jharkhand on Tuesday reported 1,266 new cases of COVID-19, taking its tally to 25,333, as per an official bulletin.

Among the new cases were Health Minister Banna Gupta and AJSU Party president Sudesh Mahto.

Ten more people died in the state, following which the toll rose to 265, the bulletin issued by the Health Department said.

The state tested record 27,260 samples for COVID-19 during the day, it added.

So far, 15,974 people have recovered in the state, while 9,359 are being treated, the bulletin said.

COVID-19 tally in Odisha rises to 64,533 with 2,239 new cases

At least 2,239 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha, pushing the tally in the state to 64,533, a senior health department official said
on Tuesday.

The death toll in the coastal state climbed to 362, with nine people succumbing to the infection, he said.

Of the 2,239 fresh cases, 1,416 were reported from various quarantine centres, and the rest were detected during contact tracing, the official said.

Assam: Six more coronavirus patients died and there were 2,534 new cases, taking the toll to 203 and tally to over 80,000 in Assam on Tuesday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The new fatalities include two persons each from Kamrup Rural and Cachar, while one person each died in Kamrup Metropolitan and Karimganj districts, Sarma said.

The 2,534 new infections took the total to 82,201. A total of 44,416 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 5.7 per cent, the minister said.

The new cases include 498 from Kamrup Metropolitan, 267 from Dibrugarh, 244 from Cachar and 145 from Kamrup Rural.

The total tests conducted has increased to 18,19,819 and the state is third after Delhi and Andhra Pradesh in the case of testing, Sarma said.

On Tuesday, 1,560 more patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recoveries to 58,294.

Out of the total 82,201 cases, 203 have died, 23,701 are active patients, and three migrated out of the state.

Meanwhile, the Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner's office has been sealed till Sunday after two additional deputy commissioners of the district tested positive, an official said.

In Assam police, 3,005 people have tested positive so far and eight have died and 2,274 have already recovered, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) G P Singh said.

Addressing a press conference in the evening, Sarma said the Indian Council of Medical Research would conduct a sero-survey in Guwahati city soon.

He said plasma therapy had gained momentum and 368 patients have been given plasma treatment so far in the state.
