New Delhi: A Mahan Air Flight on Friday will bring swab samples of 300 stranded Indian citizens in Irans, who are suspected of having coronavirus infection.

The flight would later carry Iranians back to their place in the return flight, said Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola.

Meanwhile, DGCA chief Arun Kumar said: "There are around 2,000 Indians in Iran who have to be flown back to India and the same number of Iranians that have to be flown back to Iran from here."

"Once the swabs are tested negative in Indian laboratories, the stranded natives will be allowed to fly back to India in subsequent flights," Kumar added.

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently informed that Indian authorities are in touch with their Iranian counterparts to launch operations for bringing back Indians.

"We are fully geared to screen passengers and also follow-up other cases amid the coronavirus outbreak. India now has the capacity to screen 70,000 passengers per day with minimal inconvenience or time delay to passengers," said Puri.

However, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) CEO Videsh Kumar Jaipuria said that the screening process is taking an average of eight minutes with two thermal scanners and 33 guns placed at Delhi airport.
