Ahmedabad: Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Patidar leader Hardik Patel who announced his association with the Congress said that he seeks to contest from the Jamnagar seat. However, keeping negotiations open, he said that he will obey his party's decision.
Highlighting his political ambition, Patel said that he wishes to serve the poor and find a solution to their set of problems.
On being reminded of his earlier promise of never associating with any political party, a resolute Hardik said, "What's wrong if I am joining a party. I'm not going to Pakistan."
Accusing the media of having issues with him joining the Congress, the exasperated Patidar leader said, "The same set of individuals who have a problem with me joining the Congress would not have published stories on a different note had I joined BJP."
Hardik's paradigm shift from his promise of 'never joining a party' to contesting elections in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha polls on a Congress ticket has been widely observed by people-- some of whom do not seem satisfied with his sudden change of gear.
Incidentally, Hardik who lead the Patidar reservation agitation in his state missed contesting the state assembly elections due to age constraints.
Hardik rose to fame after his Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) launched a massive protest seeking reservation in jobs and education in 2016. Hardik belongs to the Kadva Patel community which has sought reservation in OBC category.
