New Delhi: Congress party on Sunday slammed the Kejriwal-led government over the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and claimed that the recovery rate of the state is 25 per cent. CM Arvind Kejriwal has shown us in the last 6 years that he is good for image building and event management alone, and not for governance," Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said.

Alleging the state government of concealing the actual figures of the pandemic, the opposition said that the national capital is heading towards community transmission.

"Over the last few days, one out of every fourth person has been tested coronavirus. This is perhaps the highest in India and the recovery rate of Delhi is one of the lowest in the country. But still, the labs in the city have been shut citing 'over-testing' which used to test at least 4,000 patients earlier," said Maken during a press briefing.

He further questioned, "On May 29th, 7649 tests were conducted in Delhi. And the day before yesterday, it was just 5180 and it will reduce further. Is this the way to reduce the number of COVID-19 patients in Delhi?"

Maken also suggested that it is not the right time to open Delhi as well as its state borders.

He said, "It is premature for the Delhi government to open restaurants malls from June 8 till the health infrastructure is improved. I would rather appeal all the parents not to send their children to school till medicine or vaccine is developed."

The Congress leader accused that state government hospitals are 'refusing' to admit COVID patients, even after having just 28 per cent occupancy in the COVID-dedicated beds, while the rest 72 per cent are vacant.

"Delhi government has 38 hospitals in Delhi, out of which 33 are refusing to treat COVID-19 patients. The State Government's app shows that 72 per cent (3156 out of 4400) COVID-dedicated beds in the rest 5 hospitals are vacant. On Central Government's part, only 1502 beds are occupied by COVID from a total number of 16700 beds," Maken explained.

On the issue of an FIR registered against Ganga Ram Hospital, he clarified that it is having 88 per cent of its beds occupied by the Corona patients.

"Delhi Government should first improve its own working and occupy the vacant COVID-dedicated beds. If Ganga Ram Hospital is going to just admit the patients without testing them, it will be disastrous," Maken replied to ETV Bharat's question.

He lashed out at the state government for violating the ICMR norms to test the bodies as it is a necessary step for tracing and testing.

"Just to keep the figures low this ploy of state government is causing a Surge in Delhi", he added.
