New Delhi: Congress party on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government over Munger firing, saying that the incident reminded the days of General Dyre and asked the Chief Minister to seek an unconditional apology from the people who were being lathi-charged.
While addressing the media, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "The title of 'Apradh Kumar' and 'Dusheel Modi' is an understatement. These are words of moderation. They have shown the barbarity, cruelty, lack of compassion, merciless crushing in Munger. Of all months, you are doing bullet firing and lathi charge in October, which is the most auspicious and festive month of the year."
He further added, "You are chasing those people like animals. People are begging, surrounding the idol of Goddess Durga, while Police are hitting them with lathis as if they are some kind of criminals. Is it a crime in the country to worship with all requisite safeguards? And if it is some violation, is this the way to treat human beings like cattles?"
Violent clashes erupted between police and a group of people in Munger, over the delay in the immersion ceremony of the Goddess Durga idol. While one person was reportedly being shot in the head, more than 25 people got injured in the clashes.

"This reminds us of General Dyre but at least he was of colonial power. Here, we have seen barbarism against our own people by our own people. They also know that the end of their cruel Government is near," Singhvi alleged.
Congress also mentioned that there has been an increase of 140 per cent in the crime rate of Bihar, taking the state at number 2 in the cases of murder and attempt to murder, while riots have increased by 40 per cent and there is 87 per cent rise in heinous crimes, during the tenure of Nitish Kumar Government.
In a sharp attack over the Government, Singhvi said, "Is there no respect for human dignity by this absolutely barbaric, cruel, unthinking, insensitive Government? I'm amazed by the self-congratulatory appellations of 'Sushasan Babu'."
Earlier today, Congress alliance partner and Chief Ministerial candidate in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had demanded a High Court-monitored inquiry into the matter.
The attack came just before the voting in 71 constituencies in the first phase of Assembly elections of Bihar.
