New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to remain as the president of the grand old Congress party, sources said.
Sources in the Congress said that party higher-ups have already initiated the move to appoint a new President.
Talking to ETV Bharat on Friday, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said that Rahul Gandhi has decided to step down from the post of president.
"Almost all the states Congress's representatives have requested Rahul Gandhi to remain as the president, but what we have learnt is that he is not going to remain as the president," said Bora.
In fact, an APCC delegation on Thursday also submitted a memorandum to Gandhi scion requesting him to retain the post of president.
"The senior Congress leaders have already started discussion over the new party president...this is a critical time and it's good for us to get a new president at the earliest," said Bora.
Ever since the Congress faced debacle in the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi has announced that he will not retain the post of the president.
Gandhi, however, has said that he will work for the party as usual.
