Congress leaders sent memorandums to President to withdraw fuel price hike

Amid the continuous surge in fuel price in the country, the Congress Working Committee has sent memorandums to the President of India, with respect to the fuel price hikes.

New Delhi: Congress party MPs, MLAs, office bearers, leaders and workers, on Monday, sent memorandums to the President of India, demanding a withdrawal of hikes in the prices of Petrol and Diesel.

The opposition party also led a nationwide demonstration against the Central Government over the continuous surge in fuel prices for over 22 days in a row.

Congress General Secretary, KC Venugopal, said in his statement, "The party today organized and undertook a nationwide agitation against unmindful, insensitive and unprecedented hike in the prices of petrol and diesel, even as the price of international crude has been at a record low. The protests aimed at underlining the Government's extortionist looting of the common Indian during the Covid-19 crisis by profiteering at their cost."

Venugopal mentioned that the party will further conduct massive protests at the Taluk/Tehsil and block levels from June 30 till July 4. Congress also had a Social Media campaign titled "Speak Up Against Fuel Hike" whereby a number of messages and videos were shared highlighting the plights of farmers, taxi and bus owners, Transporters, labourers and the common people was suffering due to fuel price hike.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in her video message, said, "The Government has set a new example of extortion from people through this unjustified increase in petrol and diesel prices. This is in not only unjust but also insensitive as it directly hurts the country's farmers, poor, working-class, middle class and small businesses."

While on the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made a scathing attack on Modi Government, saying, "Amid Coronavirus pandemic and tensions with China, Center has left the common man to fend for themselves. The government had written off loans of crony capitalists, who are its friends, and it is looting the country by increasing the price of petrol and diesel from the past 21 days."
