New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, on Tuesday, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate deployment of more army personnel in cyclone-hit West Bengal.
Congress leader started his letter with "Out of desperation" stating, "I do like to draw your kind attention that there is no tangible improvement of post Amphan devastation in West Bengal, which has already assumed a catastrophic dimension. Distribution of food and relief to those affected areas are awfully inadequate."
He further explained that there is no electricity in large parts of the state, including Kolkata, and there is an acute shortage of drinking water as well as the apprehension of water contamination dominates ."A large area has been inundated along with ingress of sea-water also, having shortage of drinking water, decomposed bodies of animals are floating around which may contaminate the water. Power has not been restored as a consequence of which crores of people are experiencing harrowing time under sweltering heat and serious patients are gasping for lives," he mentioned in his letter.
