New Delhi: The Modi government's decision on Article 370 has increased anxiety within the Congress. There is a contradiction within the party about whether the stand taken by the Congress in both the Houses on 370 is right or wrong.
Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi were present at the high-level meeting of the Congress convened in Delhi. After the meeting, senior Congress leader Ambika Soni said that she cannot ignore anyone.
Talking to the media after the meeting, Ambika Soni said, "The government has taken an arbitrary decision on Kashmir. Tomorrow, it can do the same thing with any of the states in the Northeast, or with Punjab."
"We cannot grant the Modi government right to violate the Indian Constitution," she added.
Ambika Soni also added that the government wrongly ended 370.
She went on to say: "Although Congress seems to be alone in its decision, it is the party of the whole country. We have few MPs in Jammu and Kashmir but we cannot ignore the sentiments of the people of the state."
She also informed that another party meeting is soon going to be held, after which, the party will take its stand on the decision that the way Modi government has scrapped Article 370, is wrong.
