New Delhi: The 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case took a major twist when the rumours started spreading about Nirbhaya's mother joining the Congress party.
However, Congress has put aside all these reports and has clarified that the party has had no talks with the mother over the matter.

Indirectly commenting over the matter, DPCC chief and Member of Congress' Central Election Committee, Subhash Chopra tweeted, "Congress welcomes each and every person but amid the election period, if any report comes regarding the ticket distribution by the party, I want to clarify that I haven't talked to anyone about this matter."
Nirbhaya's mother also denied completely about such reports by calling these speculations 'baseless'. She said in a statement that she has no interest to indulge in politics so she would not contest any election even if she was offered a ticket by the party.
The speculations of the mother joining the party started when Congress leader Kirti Azad tweeted by saying, 'Welcome' to Nirbhaya's mother.
Congress' reaction on Nirbhaya matter
Fresh death warrants have been issued to the four convicts of Nirbhaya case, who will be executed on Feb 1. However, one of the convicts Pawan Gupta has moved to the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court's decision to dismiss his plea claiming that he was a juvenile.
Reacting over the matter, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "Nirbhaya case should have been closed a lot before. It must have been a very agonizing period, not just for Nirbhaya's family, but everyone waiting for justice. Justice needs to be delivered sooner than later. Justice delayed is justice denied. These issues are about the security of women, these should not be politicized."
Recently, Nirbhaya's mother also accused the BJP and AAP by saying that the case is being used for political mileage.
"I hope this was beyond politics, I hope this was not dragged into politics of the day and I hope that our political parties are sensitive enough to not politicize this whole matter," said Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
