New Delhi: After the controversial video of BJP's Uttar Pradesh chief Swatantra Dev Singh went viral where he's seen saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "decided" when India would be at war with China, Congress party, on Monday, condemned the statement, demanding a clarification from PM itself over the matter.

"If statements are being given in a superficial manner over the matters pertaining to National Security, then it should be condemned aggressively as it can lead to an environment of fear in the country. But if there is even the slightest amount of truth in his statement then Prime Minister Narendra Modi should himself come forward to tell us about it," Congress senior leader Harish Rawat said, while speaking to ETV Bharat.

Singh was speaking at an event at BJP MLA Sanjay Yadav's home, who later released this video. The UP BJP Chief linked India-China border tensions with the construction of Ayodhya temple and abrogation of Article 370 of Constitution.

He said, "Like the decisions on Ram Mandir and Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided when there would be war with Pakistan and China."

In his address, Singh also compared Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party workers with "terrorists".

Responding to his statement, Harish Rawat said, "BJP leaders are famous for their irresponsible speeches. If you call political parties, which are given affiliation from Election Commission, as 'terrorists' then you are misusing your powers and such statements should be condemned in the strongest way possible."

He further alleged, "A similar kind of statement has been made by another BJP functionary. Basically, BJP knew it is going to lose the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections and therefore, it's leaders are just trying to deviate people's attention from the real issues."

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also took a jibe at the BJP leader for his statement, by tweeting with a prompt retort "amazing", on Sunday.

  • Amazing. So the PM (who will not even name the state that has encroached upon our land) is planning a war against an Unnamed Enemy, over territory he claims has never been taken, on a date that only he knows? So is this what he meant by "minimal government"!? https://t.co/SNShCdu1UT
