New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday criticized Congress for being 'selective' when it comes to honouring leaders of India.
Reacting to Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's comment that the BJP had no freedom icon of its own so was forced to honour a "dedicated Congressman Sardar Patel", Party national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told ETV Bharat here that they were not selective like the Congress.
"Congress has named most of the institutions in the country after the names of its few leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi but we will honour everyone who may have worked for the country," he said.
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra derided the BJP saying it had no freedom icon of its own so was forced to honour a dedicated Congressman.
"Sardar Patel was a dedicated leader of the Congress and believed in the Congress ideology. He was a close associate of Jawaharlal Nehru and was strictly against the RSS," she said in her tweets, posted with a photo of Patel with Nehru.
On being asked about the ongoing tussle between the BJP and the Shiv Sena on the formation of the government in Maharashtra, the BJP leader said that they would form the government there soon with their partner Shiv Sena.
