New Delhi: Congress party, on Thursday, attacked both Central as well as Delhi Government for a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases in the national capital, saying, "Common man suffers the highest degree of health atrocities for the political blame game, bickering and misgovernance or non-governance of AAP-BJP duo."
Congress MP, Abhishek Manu Singhvi made a scathing attack on both the governments by comparing them with 'Emperor Pedro' of Rome.
Singhvi said during the press conference, "The BJP-AAP duo fiddled- through cross allegations, passing the buck and scoring debating points over each other when the people and city of Delhi are burning."
He alleged, "The toll rise in COVID-19 deaths due to untimely medical care, despite conforming of available beds by Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, has shown the callous attitude of functioning government."
Congress' senior leader and former Union Minister Ajay Maken also approached the National Human Rights Commission, on Wednesday, seeking directions to Delhi Government to reserve 70 per cent hospital beds in its hospitals for COVID patients.
Calling it a serious issue of "violation of human rights", NHRC took cognizance of the matter and direct issuance to Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi and Secretary, Minister of Health and Family Welfare calling for a detailed report within 10 days.
"Instead of setting an example, nationally and internationally, in the capital of world's largest democracy, the BJP - AAP ruling the dyarchy has attempted to project an example of how not to manage a crisis. Despite having the largest number of Hospitals and the most advanced Healthcare facilities in India, these to mismanaging Musketeers have cost Delhi dear, both in precious life and the exponential and unceasing rise of the virus," Singhvi slammed the Government.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Chief, Anil Kumar Choudhary, who was also present during the press conference, said, "This is the time when the Delhi Government has completely failed in tackling the COVID crisis. We warned the Government about testing facilitate, healthcare infrastructure, but they were not ready to take our suggestions. And now when the situation has gone out of hand, he is trying to mislead Delhi."
Singhvi also mentioned that the National Capital had 102 containment zones till April 29, when the number of cases was 3439, however, with the rise in infected people reaching to the toll of 30,000, the number of containment zones are "merely" 183.
"It appears that the Government is progressing backwards and in Reverse. However, the extension of lockdown is not a solution. daily needs nuanced micromanagement protocol COVID-19 crisis, not a blanket approach," he asserted.
Congress party demanded the intervention of NHRC into the matter and direct Delhi government to ensure that areas affected without the spread of COVID-19 shall remain contained with "realistic, scientific and efficacious" definitions and demarcation of containment zones.
