Coins worth lakhs of rupees at garbage collector's house

A group of garbage collectors in Chennai have stored coins worth two lakh rupees and demonetised currency notes worth thousands of rupees at their home in Otteri, reports said.

Chennai: Over Rs. 2 lakh of money were found in the houses of three women who used to collect waste and Rs. 40,000 of demonetised amount were also found.

Rajeshwari (65), Vijayalakshmi (60), Prabhavati (57) hail from Chennai's Otteriand and lives at the roadside although they own a house. They have been surviving by collecting and selling plastic wastes in their area.

While speaking to the police the women expressed that they didn't have a place to live even though they had a house.

Inside their houses, there were wastes piled up and were tied up in sacks.

The police cleaned all the things to help them and were shocked to find money scattered everywhere in the house.

There were coins filled in plastic pots and bags. There were approximately more than Rs.2 lakhs in the house including demonetised notes of 500 and 1,000 which were around Rs. 40,000. Along with money, 7-pound gold jewellery was also found in the home.

The residents were surprised to find that the old women had huge money.
