New Delhi: The proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), which was cleared by the union cabinet earlier this week and is to be tabled in Parliament on December 9 for consideration and passage, is facing criticism and opposition from various quarters, including political parties, social groups and individuals.
He said political parties that are supporting the union government on the issue are "opportunistic", and he along with like-minded people would continue to oppose the CAB.
"It's an anti-constitution bill. Hence, we are opposing it," he said, adding that it was also against the Muslims as they are the ones who are being targeted through the Bill.
Two other protesters, who had joined the on-going agitation on the issue, expressed similar views, saying, "It violates the spirit of the constitution and also is being made a tool to use North-Eastern parts of the country as a dumping ground in the name of providing citizenship to outsiders".
The CAB was introduced in Parliament earlier also but could not be passed as Rajya Sabha did not clear it. It is now likely to be tabled in Parliament on December 9.

If passed, it would be the first legislation under which nationality will be granted on the basis of religion.
The bill has been opposed by several opposition parties with the Congress threatening to go to Supreme Court to challenge the proposed legislation.
