China working hard, coronavirus problem will go away: Trump

At a meeting with CEOs at the US Embassy in New Delhi, US President Donald Trump said that China was working very hard and it seemed that the Asian nation was getting the situation under control.

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed confidence that the global coronavirus outbreak would be contained, and said that China is working hard to bring the situation under control.

'China working hard'

Addressing Indian CEOs here, Trump said the US plans to spend about USD 2.5 billion in fighting the deadly coronavirus.

"China is working very very hard, I have spoken to President Xi they are working very hard. They had a rough patch and right now it seems they are getting it under control, they are getting it more and more under control so I think it is a problem that is going to go away," he said.

Asserting that the situation in the US is under control, Trump said the US also does business with other nations and wants other countries to be "happy healthy and well".

'Markets will go up when I win'

Expressing confidence that he is going to win the upcoming US presidential elections that will cause the markets to boom, he said his government has done a lot for the economy, healthcare and military.

"I feel I am going to win the coming elections. When we win, markets will go up," he said.

Trump said his government was committed to reducing more regulations

'Going to cut a lot more regulations'

Trump also promised to reduce more regulations in his country as he looked for overseas investment to boost American economy.

"Some of the regulations have to go through statutory process. We are going to reduce a lot more regulations," he said.

The high profile CEO roundtable with Trump included captains of the Indian industry such as Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla.

'PM Modi a tough man, has done a fantastic job'

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump said the former was very tough, but also a very nice man.

"It has been an honour to be here. You have a very special Prime Minister, he really knows what he is doing. He is a tough man. He has done a fantastic job. We work very closely together," he said.
