Mysore: "Goddesses Chamundeshwari is the deity of our kingdom. Goddess Chamundeshwari is known as Nadadevathe which implies that she is the Goddess of our state. The gold ornaments which adorn the idol of Chamudeshwari are provided by the Mysore Palace. Therefore the tradition of Navaratri is similar at both Chamundi Betta and Mysore Palace," said Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar to ETV Bharat.
Wadiyar explained that Chamundi Devathe (Goddesses) is the state deity and that all the developmental work in the area was done by the castle. Formative work began during the reign of Devaraja. The 1000 steps of the temple were built during this time and the icon of Nandi is said to have been made during the time of king Dodda Devaraja.
"Mysore Dynasty doled out fortunes to the surrounding areas of Mysore. The Mahabaleshwar Temple, close to the Chamundeshwari Temple, has all the icons of the Chola lords. All the work around Chamundi Betta was finished by Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar. The dynasty made numerous improvements to the slope and sanctuaries. He said that it was Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar who essentially improved the old Mysore sanctuary."
"The customs of Chamundi Betta, Mysore Palace, Srirangapatnam's Sriranga Swami Temple, Melukote Cheluva Narayana Swamy Temple, Yoga Narasimha Swamy Temple and Nanjangudu Sri Kantheshwara sanctuaries are all connected with the Wadiyar royalty. We don't go to the Temples during Navratri, Because we wear the Kankana on the first day. During the Day of Ratotsava (Chariot Day), we move there, Yaduveer said to ETV Bharat.
