New Delhi: In a bid to check the rise of COVID-19 cases during the upcoming festive season, the central government has decided to implement effective control measures in the States with a high number of cases.
Alarmed over a spike of COVID-19 cases in Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and West Bengal, the Union Health Ministry decided to send a high-level multidisciplinary team to these States and help the local government in containing the situation.
Health Ministry sources said that each team would comprise of a joint secretary-level officer, one public health expert to look after the public health aspects, one clinician to look after infection prevention practices and clinical management protocols. Among all the state, Kerala has been witnessing a sudden spike weeks after the state registered a very low number of cases.
As per the statistics released by the Health Ministry, the total case in Kerala is 3,17,929, which is 4.3 per cent of the total cases. The cases per million population stand at 8,906. As of Thursday 2,22,231 people recovered from the infection and 94,609 active people are undergoing treatment. Total number of deaths due to COVID-19 stands at 1089 a case fatality rate of 0.34 per cent and deaths per million of 31. Kerala's COVID-19 tests per million are 53,518 and positivity rate is 16.6 per cent.

The Health Ministry has also expressed serious concern over the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in West Bengal following the fact that the state is in a festive mood.
It may be mentioned here that Trinamool Congress-led state government has allowed organising Durga Puja festival albeit the health protocols in place.
Health Ministry statistics said that West Bengal has 3,09,417 total cases amounting to 3,106 cases per million population. The State has a total recovery of 2,71,563 cases with a recovery rate of 87.77 percent. With 31,984 active cases, the State accounts for 4.0 per cent of India's total cases. The State's case fatality rate is 1.90 per cent.
Karnataka, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are the three other states which have been witnessing a spike in COVID-19 cases in the last few days.
The Health Ministry said that Rajasthan has registered 1,67,279 total cases followed by Karnataka which registered 7,43,348 total cases and Chhattisgarh with 1,53,515 Covid19 cases.
Karnataka has registered 10,283 fatalities, Rajasthan has witnessed 1,708 fatalities, and Chhattisgarh has witnessed 1385 number of COVID-19 fatalities. As on Friday, India registered 8,04,528 active COVID-19 cases and 1,12,161 deaths across different states. As many as 6453779 people have also been cured from the disease.
