Centre launches Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019

Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 on Wednesday. The aim of this survey is to engage rural communities in improvement of the sanitation status of their districts and states through intensive campaign.

New Delhi: Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Wednesday launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019, which will be three times bigger in scale than the previous edition of the survey.

Around 700 districts and 17,475 villages will be covered under the survey to be conducted in 34 states and union territories.

In 2018, around 6,000 villages were covered under it.

Shekhawat also launched an app through which people can give feedback on the survey.

The exercise intends to stimulate stakeholders' behavioral change towards improved sanitation, Shekhawat said.

The field survey, to rank states and districts based on sanitation level, will be held for 45 days at over 87,000 public places. Five public places in each village will be surveyed under the exercise that will conclude on September 30.

Intro:Taking a step further in its cleanliness drive, Modi government has launched the second edition of Swachh Survekshan today. In this major exercise conducted by Ministry of Jal Shakti states and districts will be ranked on key sanitation parameters.


Body:As part of Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 sample surveys will be taken from 17,450 villages across 698 districts. Around the 2,50,000 will be interviewed.

During the launch Union Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat once again asked for people's participation. He said, 'it is our responsibility as a citizen to be part of this initiative.'




Conclusion:He even went on to claim that construction of toilets across the country is the first step in many works to come.

According to the first Swachh Survekshan Grameen which held in 2018, Haryana gained the first spot while Gujarat and Maharashtra remained at second and third.
