New Delhi: As India registered 48,916 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry on Saturday asked all States and UTs across India to intensify testing.
"Keep up the strategy of the tests, track and treat with aggressive testing which may lead to a higher number of daily positive cases initially but would eventually achieve a decline as has been demonstrated after Union Government's targeted efforts in Delhi," the Health Ministry said.
Ironically India has been registering almost 40000 Covid19 cases on every alternate day for the last three days.
During the last 24 hours, India registered the highest number of testing 4,20,898 which takes the total number of testing in India to 1,58,49,068.
India's Covid19 test per million population also increased up to 11,485.
In spite of steps taken to contain this infectious disease, few states are witnessing spike of COVID-19 cases.
Maharastra has reported 3,57,117 Covid cases, the highest among states and UTs in India. A total of 1,99,749 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu toll now, while Delhi has recorded a total of 1,28,389 Covid positive cases.
The Health Ministry has detected a moving trend of this infectious disease which varies from places to places.
COVID-19 is now moving from major towns to other cities in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha among others.
A senior official in the Health Ministry, however, said that the increasing number of Covid positive cases should not be a reason to worry "because testing in India has also increased."
"The more we test, we could track and treat the disease," said the official.
Talking to ETV Bharat, Dr Giridhar Gyani, director general of Association of Health Care Providers said that case fatality rate in India is very low which is definitely a plus point in our fight against COVID-d19 pandemic.
With 2.35 per cent of fatality rate, India is one of the lowest fatality registering country in the world.
Health Ministry statistics said that 32,223 COVID-19 patient has been cured in the last 24 hours taking the total recovery number to 8,49,431. The recovery rate has now reached to 63.54 per cent.
Gyani said, "aggressive testing might increase the number of cases in a pandemic situation, but what is important is that the maximum number of lives are being saved."
Meanwhile, in a related development 2,000 women lawyers have written to Home Minister Amit Shah seeking Rs 5 lakh loan per 'financially drained lawyer during Covid-19 pandemic.
The lawyers' group in representation has also appealed Shah for improvement of the infrastructural facilities for virtual courts.
The representation by the "Advocates of Bharat" states that nin-inclusion of the Advocates community in the schemes launched by the central government under the Disaster Management Act amounts to a violation of the right to life and livelihood of around 15 lakh advocate families.
