Today, we are celebrating 50th anniversary of Earth Day to work towards the cause of envrionmental protection

For the cause of environmental protection, Globally today, 22nd April is celebrated as the Earth Day. The first Earth Day celebrations took place in 1970. Two thousand colleges and universities, roughly ten thousand primary and secondary schools, and hundreds of communities across the United States, 2 millions Americans came together to work for a better and safer environment.

In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace, to first be celebrated on March 21, 1970.

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India tweeted.

“On International Day of Mother Earth, we all express gratitude to our planet for the abundance of care & compassion. Let us pledge to work towards a cleaner, healthier & more prosperous planet”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
