Areas under Pulakeshinagar assembly constituency here resembled a war zone on Wednesday, hours after an unruly mob went on a rampage torching vehicles, irked over a 'communally sensitive' social media post allegedly by put up by a relative of a Congress MLA.

Charred vehicles, shards of glass from broken windows, stones and bricks lie strewn over the deserted roads of the violence-affected localities.

Earlier, three people were killed in police firing and scores of others wounded, including at least 50 policemen in the violence and arson that erupted in the city on Tuesday night and continued till the wee hours of Wednesday.

In the video, it can be seen that that mob vandalised MLA's house and vehicles were also damaged. Around 7-8 vehicles were set on fire which also includes police vans and DCP's car. Miscreants can be seen damaging the streetlights and CCTVs of the shops on the road installed by the police.

Police have arrested a political activist belonging to SDPI party identified as Muzzamil Pasha. The accused had also contested BBMP election last time from Sagayapura ward unsuccessfully. Muzammil Pasha has been named as the main accused in the FIR lodged at the DJ Halli police station on the case. Cops are investigating the matter.

Congress MLA appeals for peace condemns violence

"I am appealing to my Muslim brethren that we should not resort to violence for the fault committed by some miscreants. There is no need to fight. We all are brothers. Accused Naveen, nephew of Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy was nabbed and atleast 110 people were arrested for arson. Three people were killed in Bengaluru after police opened fire as clashes broke out in parts of the city on Tuesday night after a youth allegedly posted derogatory content inciting hatred on Facebook.

Bengaluru: Three people were killed in violence after a mob rampaged through Bengaluru's Pulakeshi Nagar Tuesday night and vandalised a police station and a Congress legislator's residence after an alleged relative of the MLA. In view of the security arrangements, section 144 has been imposed in various parts of the city.

"Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC imposed in Bengaluru & curfew imposed in DJ Halli & KG Halli police station limits of the city," said Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant.

A large number of people gathered near MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy's residence and vandalised it and damaged the vehicles parked there. The mob then targeted the police station and damaged vehicles believing that the police had kept the accused detained there, they said.

The police teams that tried to contain the violence also bore the brunt of the mob as their vehicles were damaged, eye-witnesses said. Police sources said a person said to be a close relative of Murthy allegedly shared a social media post that enraged members of a community.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said riots and arson are against law and warned the rioters that he has given police a free hand to contain the violence. Later, MLA Murthy appealed to the community members to not resort to violence.

After learning about the incident, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant had rushed to the spot but his intervention too did not stop the rioters. Later, the Bengaluru police tweeted that it had to lathi-charged the mob, lob the tear gas and finally open fire to control them. The police said the culprits of Tuesday's violence and arson will not be spared.

Attack on journalists, police is unacceptable: CM Yediyurappa

Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa has condemned the violence that errupted in Bengaluru and said that govt has taken all possible measures to pacify the situation.

"Directives issued against perpetrators and govt has taken all possible steps to curb the situation. Attack on journalists, Police and public is unacceptable. Govt won't tolerate such provocations and rumours. Strict action against perpetrators is certain," CM said.

DJ Halli Police Station in Bengaluru was vandalised last night, as violence broke out in the city over an alleged inciting social media post. Sec 144 CrPC has been imposed in Bangaluru city. Curfew has been imposed in in DJ Halli & KG Halli police station limits.

Congress MLA appeals for peace condemns violence

"I am appealing to my Muslim brethren that we should not resort to violence for the fault committed by some miscreants. There is no need to fight. We all are brothers. We will get the person punished as per law. We will also be with you. I appeal to the Muslim friends to be calm," he said in a video message.
         

Congress MLA and former minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan said the violence was unfortunate. "I am hopeful that police will take action against all those who are responsible for this. I also request everyone to stay calm and maintain peace in the area," Khan tweeted.

Accused nabbed, 110 people arrested for arson

Accused Naveen, nephew of Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy was nabbed and atleast 110 people were arrested for arson. Taking it to Twitter, Kamal Pant, IPS, said, "With regard to incidents in DJ Halli, accused Naveen arrested for posting derogatory posts.. also total 110 accused arrested for arson, stone pelting and assault on police. APPEAL TO ALL TO COOPERATE WITH POLICE TO MAINTAIN PEACE."

Three people were killed in Bengaluru after police opened fire as clashes broke out in parts of the city on Tuesday night after a youth allegedly posted derogatory content inciting hatred on Facebook.

Bengaluru: Three people were killed in violence after a mob rampaged through Bengaluru's Pulakeshi Nagar Tuesday night and vandalised a police station and a Congress legislator's residence after an alleged relative of the MLA. In view of the security arrangements, section 144 has been imposed in various parts of the city.

"Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC imposed in Bengaluru & curfew imposed in DJ Halli & KG Halli police station limits of the city," said Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant.

A large number of people gathered near MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy's residence and vandalised it and damaged the vehicles parked there. The mob then targeted the police station and damaged vehicles believing that the police had kept the accused detained there, they said.

The police teams that tried to contain the violence also bore the brunt of the mob as their vehicles were damaged, eye-witnesses said. Police sources said a person said to be a close relative of Murthy allegedly shared a social media post that enraged members of a community.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said riots and arson are against law and warned the rioters that he has given police a free hand to contain the violence. Later, MLA Murthy appealed to the community members to not resort to violence.

After learning about the incident, the Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant had rushed to the spot but his intervention too did not stop the rioters. Later, the Bengaluru police tweeted that it had to lathi-charged the mob, lob the tear gas and finally open fire to control them. The police said the culprits of Tuesday's violence and arson will not be spared.
