All the southern states’ representatives have submitted their statistical reports about the Cauvery River water sharing to CWRC chairman.

It is to be noted that there is a long pending dispute between Karnataka and the low lying states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in sharing the river water.

The Union Environmental and Forest Ministry had allowed the Karnataka to conduct an environmental survey for the Mekedatu project. Subsequently, TN chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had urged the Prime Minister not to allow the Mekedatu Dam Project across the Cauvery River by Karnataka state government.

However, Karnataka is firm on building a check dam across the Cauvery River in the Mekedatu area. A petition is also pending before the Supreme Court against the Karnataka government’s attempt of erecting check dam across Cauvery.
