New Delhi: The 2020 Rakshabandhan is going to be extra special as girls and women have made a green choice this time by picking up eco-friendly and organic rakhis to adorn the wrists of their brothers.
Soil and seeds being used in Making Rakhis:
To boycott Chinese goods, CAIT is getting eco-friendly Rakhis prepared for which not only soil but different plant seeds are being used. The rakhis made from clay are infused with seeds.

A girl named Sarika has made clay Rakhis for her brothers after getting inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to be self-reliant. She said that she is using the soil of Mother Earth to make Rakhis. The seeds of Tulsi -- holy basil -- and lemon have been used in making these organic Rakhis. Sarika further stated that the holy thread will remain tied on her brothers' wrist, while the seeds can be used for growing plants in pots.
Seeds were taken from farmers:
Apart from the use of soil, CAIT is also making available different types of seeds for making Rakhis. CAIT’s women cell chief Poonam Gupta said that the seeds of different plants have been used in making organic Rakhis. These seeds were procured from farmers of different states including Maharashtra and other south Indian states. The seeds of tomato, chilly, lemon and cucumber have been used in making organic Rakhis. One can grow plants by using these seeds, which will help us preserve the environment.
