New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a mega public awareness drive to reach out to the masses to outline the government’s decision to modify article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which scrapped its special status and further bifurcated it into two separate Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The campaign, which will be called the 'Janjagran Abhiyan', will be organised in two phases. It will start from September 1 and will come to an end on September 30.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that generation after generation of party leaders have been of the view that Article 370 is against the unity of the country. He further said that the Centre’s decision to modify the article was ‘historic.’
He added that more than 85 schemes and projects will be implemented in the Valley and that the entire country is with the government.
The Union Minister then announced the launch of the Jan Jagran Abhiyan, through which, he said that the party will reach out to intellectuals and masses to further this ‘national spirit.’
Pradhan also mentioned that 35 places have been identified across the country including, Kathua, Baramulla, Leh, Kargil, where the BJP leaders will make the common people aware about the reasons why the modifications in Article 370 were necessary.
Modification of Article 370 was one of the major reasons behind the party increasing its membership by 3.8 crore to 14.78 crore in its recently concluded membership drive, the leaders claimed.
