Hanamkonda (Telangana): As many as 53 BJP workers were detained on Sunday for allegedly attacking the residence of Parakala TRS legislator C Dharma Reddy here at Hanamkonda, alleging that he had made objectionable remarks on Shree Ram Janma Bhoomi Trust Members over the donations.
Mild tension prevailed at the residence as the protestors were seen raising slogans of 'Jai Shree Ram' and hurled eggs, stone at his house, damaging the window panes of the MLA's house. However, acting swiftly in the matter, the police dispersed them.
"We have taken 53 members into custody and are in the process of registering cases against them under relevant sections of (IPC)," said a senior police official.
MLA Reddy had earlier alleged that the trust members in his village are not showing any accounts and are misusing the donation funds.
Meanwhile, TRS working president and Minister K. T. Rama Rao strongly condemned the attack of BJP activists on the residence of Parakala MLA.
He said there was no place for such physical attacks in democracy. He advised the BJP leadership not to forget that TRS was a party that led the separate Statehood movement.
KTR also said BJP which was unable to convince the people with its arguments in a democratic manner, was resorting to physical attacks on its political opponents. "The TRS wants to continue politics with values. But if the BJP wants to resort to such violence, they must remember that TRS too has the power, strength and the force to protect its cadre,” added KTR.
