Patna: In Bihar's Sheohar district, Janata Dal Rashtrawadi party candidate Shreenarayan Singh was shot dead on Saturday at Hathsar village. Soon after the incident, the agitated locals attacked one of the accused and thrashed him to death. The deceased accused was identified as Javed.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the case. Three of his supporters were also shot at out of which one succumbed to his injuries.
According to the preliminary information, the candidate and his supporters were attacked with four bike-borne miscreants. As soon as an alarm was raised, the locals rushed the injured ones to the hospital and they were referred to another hospital.
The incident took place under Purnahiya police station and firing took place when the candidate and his supporters were campaigning for the election.
One of Singh's supporters, identified as Sanjay, succumbed to his injuries.
"The candidate and his supporters were attacked while they were campaigning. The attacker posed as supporters. Injured were taken to a hospital and two people have been arrested while they were trying to escape and investigation Is going on. Looking into the condition the family has decided to take him to Sitamarhi. Around five to six people were involved in the firing," Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rakesh Kumar said.
The furious locals staged a dharna outside the hospital following which heavy police force was deployed to pacify the situation. SP Anil Kumar and SDPO Ramakanth Upadhyay are monitoring the situation. Shri Narayan Singh was a former RJD leader.
