Nellore: More than 35,000 houses constructed with shear wall technology in Nellore district are lying unused.
The previous TDP government had started construction of houses under auspices of the Municipal Corporation and Municipalities. Houses were to be allotted to the beneficiaries before the elections.
People are speculating that the new YCP government wants to give up the project and allottees have been left disappointed. Beneficiaries say that no one has responded to the request to give them the houses allotted to them. The houses are in a bad state, surrounded by overgrowth and windows have been shattered.
Beneficiaries say that they are struggling to pay rent and support their families due to the coronavirus pandemic. Various opposition parties are insinuating that government money is being wasted as the houses built at a cost of thousands of crores are being left unused. The government on its part wants to respond and allocate houses to the beneficiaries.
