Jaunpur: The national lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus may have resulted in various problems for citizens on several fronts but it has also proved beneficial for many people, who would use alcohol, gutka and pan masala containing tobacco and/or nicotine on daily basis and create ruckus in the family. The chaos and the financial loss that the family would have because one or some of its members drink or use these items have disappeared.

Speaking to ETV Bharat here, many of the people, who would drink and use gutka and pan masala almost every day, said life has changed for better as they don't get it anymore because of the lockdown."Life is better nowadays as I don't drink anymore. I'm, in fact, feeling better. Money that I end up saving is spent on my family," said Rajesh.

He said the over all atmosphere of the family has also changed for better as we all have peace and no quarrels.

"I would generally abuse people at home after drinking and create a problem for the entire family but it has all changed these days,' he said, adding that government has done a good job by banning all these things.

Similar views were expressed by Lal Verma and Jitender Chauhan, who said their families were doing far better now than before the lockdown.

Verma said he used to drink earlier but he has been doing fine without it ever since it was banned with the imposition of lockdown.

"I don't drink anymore. I can't get it as it becomes costlier," he said, indicating that people can't buy it from the black market even if they don't to as it's costlier.

Verma, Chauhan and others also thanked the government for banning alcohol, gutka and pan masala, saying "It's a good step that it has taken".

Chauhan' daughter Roopa told ETV Bharat that her father would create problems after drinking alcohol every day but nowadays things have changed completely and the whole family live in peace.

"He doesn't get it anymore and it has changed everything for all of us," she said, expressing happiness over the situation.
