A woman from Assam's Sontipur district allegedly ended her life on Saturday by jumping into a well after being excluded from the final list of National Register of Citizens. The final list of the NRC for Assam has been published on Saturday.

Sonitpur: A 50-year-old woman from Sontipur district of Assam allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well after exclusion of her name in National Register of Citizens(NRC) final list on Saturday.

The NRC in Assam continues to trouble the people of Assam who have been excluded from the draft.

The final list of the NRC for Assam has been published on Saturday as the Centre deployed 51 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to maintain law and order in the state.

More than 19 lakh people have been left out and over 3.11 crore included in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list in Assam which has been published on nrcassam.nic.in. The list ends the wait of millions of Assam residents who will now get to know whether they are actually an Indian or a ‘foreigner’

The apex court has set a deadline of August 31 for public publication of the National Register of Citizens earlier.

The register is meant to serve as a definitive and authentic list of Indian citizens in Assam, separating them from undocumented migrants, mostly from believed to be from Bangladesh.

A complete draft of the NRC, containing names of 28,983,677 out of 32,991,384 applicants, was published on July 30 last year.Over 40 lakh people were left out from the draft NRC and nearly 36 lakh people have filed claims for inclusion of their names in the final NRC.
