Jammu: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Army was killed on Sunday in a firing incident along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, defence sources said.
The firing from across the border started soon after the Army noticed some suspicious movement along the LoC in Nowshera sector, the sources said.
They said the Indian troops retaliated strongly and in the exchange of firing, a JCO was hit by a bullet and later succumbed to injuries.
The cross-border firing was going on when the last reports came in, the sources said, adding further details are awaited.
Earlier on August 28, the Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balakote sector of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by small arms firing and intense shelling with mortars along LoC in Balakote sector in Poonch. Indian army is retaliating befittingly," army said.
There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations along the LoC in the Kupwara district of Kashmir valley and to the south of Pir Panjal in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
On August 26, Pakistan violated ceasefire in Shahpur, Kirni and Qasba sectors in Poonch by firing with small arms and shelling with mortars.
