Pathanamthitta: The Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali or Aranmula Boat Race is the most old and loved vessel races of Kerala. Aranmula is a legacy town lies in the banks of the waterway Pampa in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala.
The annual regatta was held here with colourful programs on Sunday. Melukara from A category and Vanmazhi from B catagory had won the first place.
52 snake boats used for this race are called Palliyodams.
State minister K. Raju inaugurated the boat race and Palliyoda Seva Sangham president Krishnakumar Krishnaveni presided over the function. State tourism minister Kadamkampilly Surendran flagged off the boat race.
Special cultural programs also were conducted as part of the inaugural function. The boat race had begun after the waterprocession of A-B category boats where thousands of people came to see the race.
A large number of people enthusiastically participate in this aquatic event not just as participants but also as viewers.
The annual water carnival that marks the anniversary of the idol installation (Uthrittathi day in the Malayalam month of Chingom) at the centuries-old Sree Parthasarathy temple situated on the riverbank is the oldest and foremost one of its kind in the whole State.
