India's renowned scholar and general secretary of the Jamiat-e-Ulema Maulana Mahmood Madani while talking to ETV Bharat lashed out at the Modi government.
Blaming the Modi government for discriminating among the people on the basis of race and religion, he said that "when a government discriminates between the people because of their colour, race and religion, such a government can only be called the illegitimate child of the colonial mindset "
Maulana Madani, over no attempts by the government to negotiate with the millions of Indians protesting against the citizenship law, said that the attitude of the government is like towards the enemies of the country. Such a government is unworthy to rule. He said that he disagrees and agrees with the government on many issues, but their attitude with the protesters is intolerable.
Maulana Madani added that anyone who has differences is viewed as hostile and the government has a "suppressive" attitude towards the opposition.
Praising the protests like Shaheen Bagh, Maulana Madani said, "Whatever be the result of the fight but if you are alive, you have to fight; if you do not fight, you are dead, people will crush you, you will have to fight, for truth, for equality, for justice, for your rights, if you don't fight, you are gone. "
On being asked about Shaheen Bagh, Maulana Madani said, "There is no need to comment on it. Brave women, our mothers and sisters stand in full force. They deserve the congratulations, we are behind them."
Maulana Madani, who supported the Modi government in the national interest, after Article 370 was abrogated, said that "my advice to the government is to listen to these protesters and negotiate with them. Their protests should not be ignored, but their right to disagree should be recognized."
Maulana Mahmud Madani advised the Modi government to quit being so obstinate, saying that the country is bigger than the party and those thinking otherwise are fools. The country is bigger than any/all parties.
