New Delhi: Ahead of the court hearing on the Babri demolition case, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met senior BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani at the latter's residence here on Wednesday. The meeting lasted for about half an hour.

Shah and Advani talked about various issues including the Babri case and the Ram temple construction, sources said.

The meeting assumes significance as Advani has to appear before a special CBI court in the Babri mosque demolition case.

Advani, who is scheduled to appear in the court on July 24 in the Babri Masjid demolition case will record his statement through video conferencing under Section 313 of the CrPC. The 92-year-old BJP leader, who had led the Ram temple agitation in the nineties, is accused in this case.

Senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi will record his statement on July 23.

The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6th, 1992 by 'kar sevaks' who claimed that an ancient Ram temple had stood on the same site.

Advani and Joshi were leading the Ram temple movement at that time.

Sources have reported that Shah invited Advani for the 'Bhoomi Pujan' (ground breaking ceremony) to be held on August 5 in Ayodhya for the construction of the Ram temple.

Earlier, sources had reported that several prominent personalities have been invited for the foundation laying ceremony, which will reportedly be telecasted live. The prominent guest list includes Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, former BJP President Murli Manohar Joshi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and BJP leader Uma Bharti.
