Dhubri: 26 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Dhubri district of Assam on Sunday during a routine check in Chapar area, a source said.
According to the reports, they confessed, they were on their way to Bangladesh through West Bengal. The Bangladeshi nationals had come to India three months back on tourist visa which expired long back. Further, without any official information, they had been working as fishermen in Jorhat and Sivsagar district.

Sources said, these people hailed from Kurigram district of Bangladesh. On the other hand, the officials of Bangladesh admitted that these nationals kept visiting Assam on tourist visa since last two years, they used to work as fishermen in different districts across the nation.
"We have been informed that some people issued them fake documents to travel despite nationwide lockdown. Based on the fake documents, they had hired two vehicles and were on their way to Bangladesh though Dhubri and West Bengal," police said.
Police have sent these 26 people for quarantine and the process is underway to inform the Bangladesh Embassy so as to ensure their safe travel back home.
