Bagalkot (Karnataka): After Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a pitch for Indian breed dogs during his recent Mann Ki Baat address and lauded the brave Indian Army dogs Sophie and Vida and urged people to adopt Indian breed of dogs, the rates of the native breeds has gone up.
These dogs which previously used to sell for 9, 000 to 10,000 are now being sold at 18,000 to 20, 000.
Earlier, PM spoke also spoke about Kinnala dolls made in the Koppal and Channapatna dolls which made their demand and prices go up.
Farmers who are bringing up and selling these dogs are happy with the demand.
This dog with its perfect body is famous as a hound. These dogs are also known as hunting dogs. The dog misses nothing when it comes to hunting. The long-legged, stick-faced Mudhola dog is now attracting everyone's attention.

Even before Modi mentioned about these dogs in his address, they were used in the army.
Even during the ancient period, these dogs were used by kings for defence purposes. They were constant companions of kings, queens and aristocrats as adept hunters and symbols of stature. Their attachment to humans has even been documented in ancient cave paintings.
The demand for the dog has increased since PM Modi had praised it. It is said that Maharaja Maloji Roa introduced Mudhol dog and the breed is said to be as old as around 500 BC. Shivaji Maharaj then used Mudhol in his army. Mudhol dog was also a part of the freedom struggle movement. They are currently serving in the Indian Army, BSF, Central Industrial Security Force, CRPF.
The dog breeding centre in Thimmapuram in Taluk has a total of 40 dogs and the demand is increasing. Mahesh Akashi, head of the Center says that they are planning to send the dog to the Karnataka Police Force in the coming days.
