Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary alleges Mamata Banerjee of hiding data of COVID-19 cases

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary has accused the Mamata Banerjee led West Bengal govt of hiding the real figures of people affected by coronavirus. In a video, the Congress leader alleged that the doctors have been told to hide the real cause of deaths in the state.

New Delhi: Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, on Wednesday, launched an attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of hiding the real figures of people affected by Coronavirus. He also alleged that the government has even ordered doctors to hide the real cause of deaths in the state.

In a video, the Congress leader said, "From the past few days, we are continuously raising the issue of people getting affected by COVID-19 in West Bengal. However, the state government is still playing hide and seek with the COVID related figures. When the Central Task Force went to West Bengal to investigate the matter, then only CM Mamata Banerjee announced that 57 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19."

The Mamata Banerjee-led government has come under severe criticism in recent weeks for having low testing rates during COVID-19 pandemic, and alleged attempts to suppress COVID related data.

While citing an order, Adhir Ranjan also alleged, "A circular has been issued to Murshidabad Medical College of West Bengal, where doctors have been ordered to mention 'Usual cause' in the death certificate of a Corona positive patient."

"This has proven that the complaints and accusations we have been putting on West Bengal Government are true," he further added.

As per the reports, the suppression of facts and fudging data has become a major worry for the state's authorities and health experts as well. The issue has now snowballed into a huge controversy between the Trinamool Congress-led government and doctors due to the system of approving the declaration of the death of COVID-19 patients by a committee of doctors, which has been set up by state government.

While slamming the Government, Adhir Ranjan said, "Corona has become a pandemic which has been spread all over the world. We need to take strict measures to fight against this virus. Still, the West Bengal government is ignoring our suggestions while hiding the facts and figures with the people."

He further added, "This is absolute injustice to the people of Bengal. Rather than saving the lives of people, the state government is basically pushing them towards their death by not taking appropriate steps."
