According to the report, the country's unemployment rate stood at a 45-year-high of 6.1 percent in 2017-18. The vice chairman of NITI Aayog Rajiv Kumar called the report 'leaked' and 'not-finalized'. It is not a final draft, he added.

In a new survey, the data is collected through computer-assisted personal interview method. In 2017-18, the unemployment rate is at 6.1 and the country's growth is not possible with this rising unemployment rate, he added.

The report landed in controversy when two members including P.C. Mohanan, who is the head of National Statistical Commission had resigned on Monday. On Wednesday, Kumar and his colleague J. Meenakshi were not happy with the non-publication of the job's data.

Speaking to media, he said, our country needs 7-8 millions of jobs and we have created an adequate number of jobs in the last four years.

Intro:New Delhi: After the release of a report of the periodic labour force survey (PLFS) done by National Sample Survey Office, showing the unemployment rate at 45-years of high, NITI Aayog came into defense of the government by saying that it is unfair to publish a draft report as the data is still under process.

Body:Calling the report "leaked" and "not-finalised", the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Rajiv Kumar, said, "It is not right to compare the two data sets, this data is not verified. It is not correct to use this report as final. The new survey used a computer-assisted personal interviewee method to collect data this time."

He also said that seeing the unemployment rate at 6.1 percent during 2017-18 is quite shocking because "if unemployment is on rise then the country could not have experienced a growth of 7 percent."

The report came into controversy when 2 members resigned from the commission on Monday, including, P.C. Mohanan, who is the head of National Statistical Commission. He said in a statement on Wednesday that he and his colleague J. Meenakshi were not happy at the non-publication of jobs data that had been due for release in December. Over this issue, when media asked Rajiv Kumar whose approval is needed for the report, he hesitantly replied, "Maybe Cabinet."

Conclusion:Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog also claimed that this year's data cannot be compared from the data of 2011-12 as both the methodology as well as sample size is "different". He also said, "Our country needs 7-8 millions of jobs and we have created adequate number of jobs in the last four years."
