New Delhi: With the Tablighi Jamaat - a Muslim religious group - drawing ire from several quarters for having “deliberately” spread the coronavirus disease in the country through a recent congregation at Nizamuddin in Delhi, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Arshad Madani on Tuesday appealed to all religions to abstain from organising religious gatherings.
“Coronavirus pandemic is a global tragedy. Even the most advanced countries in the world are struggling to control the spread of the disease... it is very important for people to practise social distancing. There shouldn’t be any religious congregation, social gatherings or political rallies organised in the country at this point of time...Muslims should also abstain from gathering at the mosques,” Madani told ETV Bharat.
The prominent Muslim body leader added, “People should offer prayers at home to avoid the spread and contraction of the virus. Both Hindus and Muslims must adhere to the rules to give a tough fight to the disease.”

He further made an appeal to all the Muslims “to remain cautious” and immediately rush a person suspected of being infected with COVID-19 to the doctor.
With more than 100 positive cases of coronavirus have emerged from the Tablighi Jamaat congregation Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz, the deadly disease has taken a communal colour in the country. Following the reports of several people who attended the event leaving for various parts of the country, "TablighiVirus" and "CoronaJihad" were among the trending topics on Twitter.
