LS polls 2019: 63.69 per cent voter turnout in UP in 1st phase

The first phase of the election saw voting in 20 states, including Uttar Pradesh. Considering its huge population and vast geographical area, polling in UP will take place in each of the 7 phases of election 2019.

Lucknow: Voting begins for 91 constituencies in 20 states and union territories in the 1st phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 on Thursday.

In Uttar Pradesh, the first phase of polls was held on eight Parliamentary seats, including Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar. The polling took place between 7 am to 6 pm with 63.69 per cent voter turnout in UP in 1st phase.

• About 50 per cent electorate cast their vote till 3 pm in UP.

  Meerut recorded 51 per cent

  Baghpat recorded 51.20 per cent

  Ghaziabad recorded 47 per cent

  Gautam Buddh Nagar recorded 49.72 per cent

• A former BJP MLC tried to "capture booth" with his supporters by pelting stones in Rasoolpur polling station in Kairana constituency. A CRPF jawan fired a shot in the air to control the situation.

• About 30 per cent voter turnout in Ghaziabad till 1 pm.

• Ruckus started at a polling booth in Baghpat over cross-voting allegations.
  

  Union Minster Gen V.K. Singh cast his vote in Ghaziabad

• Supporters of Chaudhary Ajit Singh forcefully entered in booth number 88 of Budhana in Muzaffarnagar.
  Mahant Narayan Giri of Dudheshwar Nath Temple has also voted in Ghaziabad.

• An Indian national from Australia has also reached Vidya Bharati school in Ghaziabad to cast his vote.

• Mahant Narayan Giri of Dudheshwar Nath Temple has also voted in Ghaziabad. He appealed people to exercise their voting rights.

• Polling at booth number 151 in Ghaziabad's Sahibabad has stopped due to Electronic Voting Machine malfunctioning. Over 50 people are waiting in the queue. The voting officer said that the engineer has not yet reached to repair the machines.
