Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh): Pandit Chhannulal Mishra- one of the greatest and most gifted classical vocalists of India on Saturday got the Padma Vibhushan, which is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, is the highest civilian award in India after the Bharat Ratna.
After the government announced his name for Padma Vibhushan, ETV Bharat reached his house in Varanasi and talked to him.
In a conversation with ETV, Mishra said, "I am so happy after the government announces my name for the Padma Vibhusan Award. I would like to thank Chief Minister Yogi ji for recommending my name for the prestigious award."
The awardee also thanked God Shankar for his immense blessings and said, Kashi is the holy place for Hindus. I am so blessed that I have been living in this place for such a long time. I will never leave this place till my death.
Mishra, classical vocalists holds his audience spell-bound with his mellifluous rendition, He has the distinction of being a Versatile Vocalist, equally proficient in classical and lights classical music such as Khayal, Dadra, Thumri, Chaiti, Kajri, Sawani, Holi and Bhajan.
In recognition of his musical acumen, Mishra has been distinguished with numerous high honours. He is a Top Grade artist at the AII India Radio and the Doordarshan. He is also the member of Ministry of Culture (North-central) Govt. of India. He has also released many albums which include a wide variety of melodic variations, all sung in his characteristic sensuous voice.
